The Empire Strikes Back

Hi guys,

it's been a while since I posted here. I've kind been busy with all sorts of things.
Including my latest project.
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK:

A Tiger1 from the 2nd SS panzer division has taken a flanking position next to a knocked out SU122.
The Tiger provides flanking and fire support for the SS infantry whom are anxiously trying to move forward.
This during the third battle of kharkov which started on 19 february 1943.

The kits I used are:
Tamiya Tiger1 early,
Lion-roar PE set for the Tiger,
TMD frontal armor and turret roof
Aber barrel and
Fruil tracks.

Tamiya SU122,
Eduard PE-set,
Lior-roar barrel,
fruil tracks and other varior thingies from my scrapbox

A load of infantry from various companies all blended and mixed together.

Allways wanted to do a muddy snowy diorama, so....

Here are the pics with the progress 'till now:
Basic lay-out

I really like the setup. One question though... why would a German tank drive so close to a knocked out Russian vehicle? These things attract the viewer so one would quickly notice movement arround debries like this....

but that put asside... I am looking forward to see the rest of the dio...

Nice to see two big boys getting together and even if the Tiger was still a runner I would think the crew would be gun shy by now LOL.
I like your work with the men too. They look like part of the dio and not an after thought .

As for the Tiger being next to the SU122, Wittmann took his Tiger down into a lot of T34 wrecks so that he could ambush the next wave of Soviet armor. I always thought it was reckless of him but he pulled it off and bagged a swag of tanks.

Life's so very funny, you just need to remember to laugh [note to the clowns].

Why would the clowns not let people into the tent? What's the point of the show if they don't? .

Have you considered that either there was no other way to go or that the disabled Russian tank provides good cover and protection from anti-tank fire. After all a tall hedge or building might hide the Tiger tank but it won't stop a anti-tank round like the damaged tank in front of it would.

Shaping up to be another stunning dio Axel.

Hi Axel, this is progressing very nicely, I really like the compact setting and all the 'population' milling around...

Very believable!

Cheers again Axel, keep it coming! Phil
