Sturmgeschütz IV

Hello again, everyone. Switching gears from my recent British builds I'm back to the Dark Side for this one. Beginning with the Tamiya Panzer IV...(yep, 1/48th)....I am also going to be using the Hauler StuG IV conversion.

...I hope to end-up with this.....

A big thanks to Saul for helping me find the inspiration and references!

Let's begin....the wheels.

Work will soon move to the rear assembly so I decided to add a little texture to the muffler with MR.Surfacer, with Hauler providing PE replacement straps.

Here is a comparison between the upper hulls of the Tamiya Pz IV (tan) and the new Hauler StuG (grey)....really nice stuff.

Ok...now the fun begins. The forward hull from Hauler must be mated with the Tamiya engine deck.

I intentionally cut the deck with a little excess, then sanded back to the proper length. I also needed to fill the locking notch from the Pz.4 turret with a little plastic stock.

Sanded to length and ready to mate.

There's a start, more to follow soon.

Thanks,
Rick

Hello Rick,

Nice interesting subject. I do have my doubts about the texture on the muffler. I mean at that scale would you really be able to see any texture?? Just wondering.

Hey guys, thanks for the interest.

Marco, yes this is my first 1/48th build...if you remember I did that little 1/72 Stug III a little while ago as a prelude for this 'cuz I knew that this one was coming and I wanted a little practice with the small stuff.

John, right up your alley!!!

Luiz, as always - thanks.

Matt - when the heck you going to start a Vbench.? It's been awhile, I need to check on your P47.

Jan,Tony & Julian - always appreciate the support.

Dave - I definately need to watch the scale, it's small for sure! The texture on the muffler is mostly a difference in finish rather than texture (if that makes sense?) Appreciate you flying wing.

Talk to you all soon,
Rick
