Dragon Stug III C/D

Hello guys, I decided to enter the group build with one of Dragon’s oldies: the Stug III C/D. I’m going to build it almost OOB because it’s a little late to do some major surgery on it with the dateline so close at hand. So let me show you what I’ve done till now….

As always, the first step is to build the lower hull so here it is complete with suspension arms, shocks and final drive housings.

Here is a rear view with the mufflers and everything else in place.

The road wheels, idles and sprockets assembled and ready to be installed.

Here the engine deck, engine vents and the gun mount is in place. Also you can see where the “almost OOB” comes into play; I made a spare track rack out of some plastic strips and glued it to the sides of the hull.

The front upper plate was next.

Here’s a close up.

The other side got one too.

Next the fenders were done, complete with tools and such.

After that the superstructure and the smoke grenades housing was glued.

Then details as tow hooks and visors were installed.

That’s all for now. The next step is the most tedious one; building the tracks. So with that happy though I will see you on the next update.

Thanks for viewing
Ruben

Nice to see these early StuG's out there! I've got this kit halfway done and it's still not too bad. Just some more clean up then the newer kits.

I'm curious, did all of the C/D's have the tracks on the hull sides? Wondering if I need to add them.

No Stuke, all of them did not have extra armor on their hull sides.

Nice to see you working on something new Ruben. Is vacation time over for all of us?

Dave

Well Stuke, when it comes to Stugs the best way to go its with photos of them.
I've seen spare tracks on the sides, on top, on the front, in the rear, over the stug and in every place in between!

Hello again guys and thanks your kind replies.
Here’s the next update of this build.

As I said earlier the next step was to build the tracks so after about 6 hours of cleaning and building I ended up here.

Tracks and fenders were glued in place at the same time.

After that I decided to make some weld lines missing from the kit. First one, the one between the super structure and the transmission cover.

Next the welds around the vision port and the lifting hook. I also added the bolt to the base of the handles.

The welds to the front of the hull were applied too.

And the one that goes around the gun.

Next I added the wires for the fender lights using copper wire and made the fasteners with a piece of brass wrapped around a drill bit.

Here are both of them.

Then I turned my attention to the hatches and cut a little plastic to make the lip that goes on the front one…

…Andthe locking mechanism in the others.

I also put a spare road wheel in the left side of the fighting compartment since almost every photo shows them carrying one.

And since its going to be in plain view I installed the tubes to the inside of it.

Using some leftovers from my 234 PE fret I made the lock and fasteners for the toolbox.

And that’s all for now, see you soon.

Ruben
