Fun with Fruil

Over Xmas I got the chance to attack the Fruilmodel white metal tracks. I have taken a few snaps for those of you who have not constructed these before. They are time consuming but quite easy - well worth the effort.
READY TO GO.
.....................................
THEY REQUIRE A MINIMAL AMOUNT OF CLEAN-UP, WHICH IS EASY DUE TO THE WHITE METAL MEDIUM. An EXACTO will trim the flash easily and it is not required for every link. I only had 2 pieces of link that were not moulded properly and will be used as spare track for hanging. Each link needs the holes drilled through but on the very outer edge which will be facing the inside. Each side has handed track in which the pin is added to the 'inner side.
..
....

I TOUCHED THE END OF THE WIRE IN SUPER GLUE THEN PUSHED IT THROUGH FROM THE OPEN END AND 'BEDDED' IT INTO THE SEALED HOLE AT THE OPPOSITE END. This is done with the next link in place. I got a system going with 2 tweezers, 1 a clamp type (for holding the wire) and the other a Tong type (for placing the next link). Once they are in place and dry you just trim off the ends so they are flush.
.
One side done, 1 more to go!
.....................................

ALL DONE YAAAA! GOD!
Some spares left over and some Karaya cables added
..

Looking good, but for my personal taste, I'd rather leave out one or two more track links - the sag looks a little too much.

Yes I would agree...........

Johannes,
thanks for the post. Yes I could probably have left out a link or two, I agree, but I am past the point of reversing this I think. I will give it a try but otherwise as you say I will have to live with it. I have a picture of some Stug G's in Italy with quite loose track but I would like to be able to tighten a touch if I can.

Alex,
Thanx for the creds. I am glad you are enjoying my post.

Hi Don,
thanks for your interest. I have not done much more on this at present except for taking out the slack in the fruil tracks. I have my 17cm Grille on the go at the moment and will be posting an update on that shortly. When that is finished I will get back to this and my BR52 LOCO.

Not enough time in the day with work and kids etc.

Ian.
