PBR Anyone?

Wanted to do something different, hadn't done a ship since I was a kid. This was for the Charlie Don't Surf group build at Modeler's Alliance, Vietnam subjects. It was a good build and we'll probably do it again in the future.

And the finishing touch...
based on a double dog dare.

The Tamiya kit went together like a dream. The build itself was OOB, the only thing I added was the eyelets for the mast supports, they are actually eyelets from Bob's Buckles I had left over from a WW1 Sopwith Pup I built.

The stowage is from MecModels.

The cockpit of the boat is very well detailed and it's a crying shame to cover it with the canopy, only aftermarket I would like to see is replacement rack for the canopy, Guess I could have done it out of brass, and who knows, may do it on a whim one day.

Lovely job and subject. I like the Gilligan's Island reference, but one question.......where is Mary Ann?

Pibber!

MP,

Thank you for posting you cool looking PBR 'Pibber' Love the OD paint finish and subtle 'Nam red' weathering. All the detailed up-gunned MGs look menacing.

"SS Minnow" on the life saver ring, yes why not? I can identify and was a big fan of the Skipper & Giiligan.

A great tribute to the Brown-water Navy that served with honor in the Nam.

Looks great! I remember wanting to build this kit a long time ago. I still may. I enjoyed building PT 109 and a Vospers MTB, so the PBR would be right up my alley!

Thanks Alex but the guns are all OOB, I drilled out the barrels but that's about all. Just testament to Tamiya quality.

I really got lucky with the brown water weathering, it was one of those things I didn't know what I was doing and it turned out looking pretty good. Just wished the jets were better detailed, that's why there's no pictures of them...maybe I should keep my mouth shut...

Marc this kit is a great to build up, the only suggestion I have is to build it without the canopy in place if you can, the cockpit looks better than the canopy.
