Thanks, Todd!

By the way, I noticed in your Sturmtiger album (nice build!) you are also a glutton for track-painting punishment, painting at least some of them individually before assembly...

I envy you so much - I wish I could be painting and decaling my Elefant as well (already).

Johannes
I admire your patience in sticking with the same project until it's perfect - it's going to be a museum quality piece when finished. Mine's just a model...

Spare tracks and open pistol port on rear bulkhead (left). Front-mounted spare tracks (right). I tapped the holes for 00-90 hex head screws. The screw heads are filed-down for a more scale appearance. The hold-down is made from brass strip. Three more hold-downs to make and then i can prime and paint them. I also started applying a bit of chipping with Nato Black.

Good job, Andy.

One thing: I always use shades of brown for the paint chips. It looks less stark in contrast in scale.

Nato Black

Very nice Andy,

Good point Johannes about not using black,
even artists avoid stark black in the shaded areas ...
it tends to take away realism like a portrait outlined in black ink
So I'll keep it in mind in my build ...

Thanks guys.

The chipping is actually Nato Black which is more of a very dark gray. I plan to temper that a bit with some dark brown pastels, but that's in a later weathering stage...

Thanks for the comments!

Managed to get some more work done, despite being sidetracked with several other projects.

Overall shots showing additional chipping and some streaking with Winsor & Newton oils. I have been using a combination of raw umber for rusty streaks and (I think) cadmium yellow for rain streaks, applying it in tiny dots and sweeping downward with a turpenoid-moistened blending brush. I'm restraining myself from overdoing it, knowing that most Elefants probably didn't see extended service.

Detail shot showing the scratch-made spare track hold-downs (left). Detail shot showing jack, jack block (scratchbuilt from pine) and mallet with scratch-made clasp (right). The Dragon tool clasp was so tiny, my 44-year-old eyes and fat fingers simply couldn't construct it! I had to do something, though, as I had already shaved the plastic simulated clasp from the handle... I used some PE fret and 34-gauge annealed steel wire.

I approached the final stages of this build very cautiously and most definitely taking my time, but I'm pleased with the results thus far.

What do you guys think?
