I've had a quick fiddle with the photo to show what I think we are talking about .

Why would the clowns not let people into the tent? What's the point of the show if they don't? .

Great photo Coops....jeeez I need glasses! (I already wear them!)

Alanmac nailed it I think...

It's hard to see stuff in these old photos but I think it's definately the engine screen.

Also, to the right of the "3" there looks to be a small shell hit?

Hi

I just think it's mud, dirt or other surface stuff that coincidently happens to have a straight line to it defined by the contrast of the photograph.

I think if something had made a hole big enough for that to be a triangular infill plate to repair it then it would have been by-bye Tiger.

Or even the line of camo aligned with dirt to give the optical effect we see.

Looks as serpico points out, like it has taken a hit or two from that blemish in the turret side.Looks a little like a eye don't you think?

Happy modelling

Alan

Could be anything like you say, perhaps its splatter from MG fire . The strike mark near it looks to be from AT rifle fire [you see a lot of hits like that around the cupola].
Anyway nice shooting the breeze with the both of you .
