Hello everyone,

thanks for the nice comments, again.

@ Abdin: Wow, great photos! Didn't even know that there are so many detailed shots of the interior around.
But it seems like Verlinden was right on the floor of the fighting compartment. From what I can figure from the pics posted, there was really no kind of non skid plates.

@ holmerz: Excactly - it's touching the sprocket. But it's already glued in position. But it seems like it doesn't make any further problems. At least I can't see any difficulties on this issue, yet.

What do you think, was the inner of the road wheels painted in dark yellow as well or left in oxide primer?

Johannes

I think they were painted; if you look closely at the first photo you can see the paint in the face of the inner road wheel. (Third road wheel from the right)

Thanks Ruben, that's what I thought as well.
Greetings, Johannes.

So I painted the inside of the road wheels this evening in a self made dark yellow mix because it's hard to reach if you want to paint it after the halves are glued together. It's glossy because I already sprayed W5 - the German equivalent to America's Future (which a friend of mine will bring me over from his holidays in the states, finally) - on it.

No big step ahead but at least something done.

After a long no-modelling-mood I finally worked a little bit on the Elefant, again.

I created the textured steel and did a little Zimmerit-work.

Here two shots showing the reworked kit parts. Please consider that both pictures were taken in brightest sunlight to show you guys the texture best. It looks a little overdone this way, but under normal conditions it looks good and turned out well. Still, it needs some touches but all in all, it's quite satisfying.
I also prepared the lower areas for the Zimmerit, means I roughned up the surface so that the putty for the Zimmerit better connects with the plastic.

Here's the little bit of Zimmerit I did today on the front. Having realized that my first Zimmerit approach with the acrylic putty does not work out on large areas like the hull sides (it loses all it's structure during the drying process) I settled for Tamiya's Epoxy putty. It works pretty well. The structure is being made with a sharpened screw driver.
The front part above still needs some finishing touches (some minor sanding and cleaning) but it looks very convincing for me.
The biggest challenge will now be to achieve a thin layer of putty on the large areas so that it looks realistically.

I hope you like it. Any comment is appreciated

Johannes

Looking good...I'll bet that the steel texture will really look nice under paint...can't wait.

Nice texturering on the steel plates . Although you already painted the inside of the wheels, I wouldn't worry to much about the color as I imagine they would be covered in dirt. But that's just my 2 cents.

Johannes,

You can use the zimmerit applicator from Tamiya. With it you don't need to worry about the thickness of the layer of putty.

Hello Johannes,

I'm not a big fan of German vehicles, but that steel texture looks very good. Like Rick, cant wait to see that under some paint. Keep it up

Best, MartinD
