Flower Power - Making flowers in 1/35

Hello once again.

Since I am planning to add some flowers to my T-34 monument I thought I’d show you guys one technique that has worked for me to make flowers in 1/35 scale.

Flowers are one of the most difficult things to replicate in 1/35. Over the years I have tried almost everything from commercially available products to using the real thing and nothing seem to work.
Then one day while I was looking at a stamping press at work I came up with an idea.

So… it starts with a 2.35 mm brass rod. The length is not as important but try keeping it between 25 mm and 30 mm.

Using a triangular file I made some grooves all along the circumference of the rod.

Here is a close up of how it looks. Now you have your own “flower punch”.

Once this was done I used a punch & die set and some 0.10 mm plastic sheet. Using the brass rod I punched out some flowers.

This is how they look.

I then used a round file to push the center so they don’t look flat.

Here are some ready to be used.

Here is a complete flower arrangement. The cloth is made of green putty.

And here is the painted arrangement.

I hope this tip will be useful. Thanks for looking.

Dave

Thank you for the excellent tip! Id like to try it on lead foil rather then the plastic to see what kind of results one could get.

Thanks Anders,
I did try the idea today using lead foil, but they results were not satisfactory. The pattern was not cut, instead only round discs came out. I guess is because lead is less stiff than plastic, so the stress concentrates on the round part of the Punsh & die set instead of the flower pattern.

Thanks Pete.
If you have other techniques please post them up. Its always good to have many options when it comes to modeling.
