Panzer III Ausf.E, France 1940

Hello.

Started this one month ago. I'm using Dragon 6631 as base kit and several metal barrels and photoetch sets as addition. As I'm planning to makeit as diorama, I'm also using Tristar figures (poses of these are most suitable I have found) with Hornet replacement heads.

This is what I'm starting with:

And here I am, month after start. Not much done yet:

And Figurines:

Hi

After the whole summer and nearly two month pause on the modelling, there has been a little progress lately.

After completing both track runs, I formed the base of the vignette. It has been made of foam plates and covered with gypsum plaster.

First, the composition tryout:

...and then the base with all the main elements of future vignette

After that I started working with the tank again and have finished the turret build by now. As most of the hatches will be closed, I didn't bother myself with all the turret interior parts Dragon offers. Still - commanders hatches will be opened, so the inside of these had to be made. Actually Voyager offers whole metal-etched hatches to replace plastic ones, but after completing these, they seemed little too thin and oversized. Metal hinges were other ones that wasn't much of a deal. So I cleaned Dragons hatches insides and replaced details with Voyager ones.

As with the other build of the turret, it went by the book. Only intricate part was the gun housing and turret front plate - but nothing much to worry about.

That's all by now.

Thank you for watching and feedback
Kristjan

Thumbs up

This looks great and I'm surprised you could have walked away from it for 2 months! I like all the AM parts being used, especially the Modelkasten tracks.

Speaking of tracks, I would suggest a bit of track sag or have it want to wrap around underneath the sprocket, since it is going up a hill.

Those machine gun barrels look so sweet and the figures are posed perfectly. Maybe the soldier on the ground have his helmet to have just fallen off his head? Keep it going as you now have one more watching!

Thanks, Jeff, for the kind word and suggestions.

Little update about this. Absent front-left fender and dents on rear mud flaps are as per photo of real tank given here http://www.flickr.com/photos/deckarudo/6958636963/
(As you can see, the markings I'm going to use is nr. 156.)

But here are the progress so far.
