M4 81mm Mortar Carrier - DML 1/35

Hi everybody !!

I start my new project - Dragon's M4 Half-Track with 81mm Mortar. I stopped build Panther F because with this model I start in one competition. Now model is painting but in next few days I send few, better photos from build, because I haven't got a lot of free time, but I want show you this build

Model I was build OOTB with some corrects. Only one addition will be metal barrel for Browning M2 .50cal from RB Model. I want paint him with Modulation Color. So, first what I do was a mortar (later I add for it sights), drivers compartment with my new pedals, partly chassis frame, differential gears and partly bogie units (with it I add a small holes).

Next part of thotos soon. Regards, Mateusz !

Nice start Mateusz, can you build this as just the troop carrier? That mortar looks great with the alli barrel .

Thanks guys

Coops - yes, I can build this Half-Track as standard carrier, or mortar carrier because to standard M2 DML added 2 spures to mortar carrier version, so this kit is better than Kit no.6329 with the same price

Ok, next part of pics.

I did new spring on rear and for diversify turn front wheels, I fold up engine, front grill, road wheels and front bumper.

With this way I finish the chassis

Reagrds, Mateusz !!

Actually to be pedantic, the M2/M2A1 wasn't a troop carrier, it was a prime mover.
The M3/M3A1 was the troop carrier but hey, whatev's... I knew what you meant, I'm just being picky

.

Mateusz,

in the first picture below you have the drive shaft for the winch installed but you have
the unditching roller mounted. You can see the shaft coming from the transfer case and over
the front axle, you might want to remove this considering you mentioned this is for a competition.

Those brackets never existed, my guess is Dragon used a restored vehicle for reference with makeshift,
jury rigged brackets. The real front bumper was a three piece assembly, and the unditching roller mounts
attached to the chassis rail via the top and bottom with a large, single bolt.

Of course, if this is of no consequence to you, forget what I said.

Glad to see you've started this build as you once mentioned in my thread and I will be following along.

Ok no M3 . These always looked so cool and when I was a kid they were the preferred mod of transport for 1/72 troops [all sides used them depending on who won the coin toss ].
I'm thinking one of these halftracks should go on the "to build list" or into the stash [as much as I'm trying to cull kits it keeps growing!!].
BTW nice work on the springs, very neat work there .

No worries man, as I said I was just being picky. I'd be willing to bet plenty of M2's never towed a dang thing.

G'day camokid, well I looked at your blog and between you and Rick it is a freaky prospect of building one.
Is there a quick build option anywhere? A bit more than OOTB but nothing as taxing as you have done?
Regards Steve
