What a beast. Any official reason this didn't go into production? To much stress on the suspension?

Roy I don't think it was suspension, my understanding was recoil played havoc with the drive train.

Maybe Gopher has some info about the S-51's failures.

Two main reasons:
KV-1s chassis was out of production from December 42.
Lack of B-4 howitzers.

There you go:thumb:

I just knew Mr.Andrey would have the answer.:)

The lack of B-4 howitzers I will buy but not the out of production chassis. The KV-1S was in production until August of 43. Even the initial KV-85 was essentially a modified KV-1S hull.

Oops...
It's my fault. Correct - December 43.
Last production month for KV-1S - August 43, for KV-85 (modified KV-1S hull for a bigger turret) - November 43.
Factory trials of S-51 - February-March 44.

Great work, Tony. I like this unusual design a lot. Now I'm looking forward to see you paint the little bugger. :thumb:
