Hello All,

Alex DeLeon told me about this site when I attended the AMPS CENTEX show back on the 22d of September. I would have been here sooner, but it looks like I could be heading over to Afghanistan in the near future and I've been having to take care of some things in the training arena.

I've known Alex for quite some time, I think since 1982 or so when he gave me some pointers about making foliage for dioramas at a contest in San Antonio. It's always good to see him at the various shows to talk a bit and to see what new projects he has on display.

I am primarily a figure modeler and a figure diorama kind of guy mainly because the armor that I have built in the past still looked like a plastic kits. After seeing what can be achieved with some of the new painting/weathering/filltering techniques while I was at the AMPS CENTEX show, I am motivated to make another try at armor. I hope to learn some new stuff while at this site.

I look forward to interacting with the folks here on planetArmor.

Cheers!

Wow! Hey James, Welcome to planetarmor and for your first visit from Texas.

Yes, it has been a long road since that local IPMS show and contest at the old Wonderland Mall in San Antonio, Texas in 1983. Been "hooked" ever since wanting to go to the shows, then and on until whenever.

Glad to hear that you are getting back interested in armor builds and there is plenty of room here on planetarmor for your miniature figures and dioramas/vignettes.

I really loved your Nam era figure "Unfortunate Son" you had on display at the AMPS Show and it really touches my heart to see the trooper wounded like that, but standing up proud.

I have your Nam figures posted here on planetarmor and posted them up over on planetfigure.com also.

Take care, God Bless and be careful if you go overseas.
Looking forward to your armor builds, figure dioramas and vignettes here on planetarmor.

thank you

AWD

Thanks for the warm welcome, Alex.

Yeah, that show at the Wonderland Mall was quite a while ago, but it was the starting place where I decided that I really wanted to get into modeling.

Thanks for posting the pictures of my figures. The pictures came out way better than any that I took at the AMPS CENTEX show.

Also, thank you for the positive comments about the "Unfortunate Son" figure. It was the first figure that I ever painted using oils over acrylics and I think it turned out OK. I wanted to convey a sense that even though the Soldier was an "Unfortunate Son," he was still proud to be a Soldier because out in the jungle among his buddies, he was somebody even if he had come from a poor to middle class background.

Take care and have a great day.
James
