Does anyone have any recommendations on how to,
1. get the blackened or black shaded areas around hatches and other objects? I used to use a very diluted flat black wash but that seemed a little unrealistic.
2. Dirt and dust, keeping it in place. I understand the use of artist chalk but keeping it in place is a bit of a mystery. I have been told a spritz of water but application is getting the best of me.

That's what i have so far, but there will be more as time goes on....
Thanks for the help

There is a SBS on painting the KV-2 that shows how to get the best out of your painting.
I can't remember who's it is by but a look around it will show up :).

BTW many, many others are good painters so look at as much as you can :).

Spay with a gloss coat before you do your pin washes and us a cotton tip to wipe up the extra paint. Try a brown and not a black or even a dark grey. Experiment alot to something works for you because all the best painters on the web have their own style.
