I made a jig to form the cab grab handles. Two pieces of .187” (4.7mm) styrene rod were glued .5” (12.7mm) apart. A piece of brass rod .025’’ (.63mm) that will be used for the grab handles is placed on top of the two styrene rods and a square strip was glued next to the brass rod to help hold it in place when you are bending. I set this aside to let everything harden up and set about to soften up the brass rod to make it easier to bend. I did this by heating it up with a small torch and letting it cool. I then made the corresponding drill jig to drill the holes in the cab. I took the exact measurement of the outside of the two styrene rods on the bending jig and then added the diameter of the brass rod (.025”) this will give you the exact centers of the grab handle ends. The “bridge” on the drill guide is to span the door opening and help stabilize the drill jig when I drilled the rear set of holes since there was not much cab left to hold the jig steady. The back side of the jig was notched out to fit over the cab ribs.
The grab handles are installed. Also note the position of the fire extinguisher. The welding tanks might have to be trimmed on the molded in bracket where the tank meets the rear of the cab.
If you mount the stowage box on the cab before you put the cab on the chassis make sure you leave the spare tire off so it will clear. I’m not gluing my cab on until all painting is done so it can be slipped on and off.
