Hi guys,

That shows that there are no indestructible tanks... Even if some people pretends so...

Just funny to watch the beast slipped down to the canal. Do you know why they parked her there in the first place ?

Maybe to support a checkpoint?

I remember seeing a similar pic accompanied by a story (it might have even been the same tank photographed from a different angle) that they were driving done a road along an irrigation ditch and weight of the tank caused the edge of the road to give away into the ditch, with the tank sliding down on top of it. Could be that...

I think so now. Is it possible for the tank being pull up by some sort of reinforcemnt tractor ?? Like those engineer tanks for recovery...

Ropi,
I think you are taking this "indestructible" thing too personally. I don't think that any of these tanks were knocked out by another tank and that was the point made in the megasomething program. If it makes you feel better the "COHONES EH" tank (which shows up in several of these picks in different stages of destruction) was taken out of action by a 7.62 X 39 round from an AK-47.

COME AGAIN?
Now explain to me that: how can a 7.62x39mm round destroy a TANK?
(PLS give me a direct link to the pictuers, I couldn't make out the names of the tanks)

PS: Balki, you are definitely right about me, but as a wannabe baratrooper, I have to make myself believe that armor isn't as hard to destroy after all :D

Ropi, moj bratanku!
It happened during the Thunder Run through Baghdad. Cojone Eh was part of that run.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/Balki/cojoneeh.jpg
While getting ready for the run one of the crew members put a barrel of hydraulic oil in the rear basket. They encountered small arms fire on the run, but one Iraqi fired a lucky shot and hit that barrel. The oil leaked out and the engine caught fire. You can see it still leaking under the basket. The crew tried to put it out with... water. Now, we are a smart bunch of modelers so we know what happens when one tries to put out an oil/grease/fuel fire with water.
Anyway, the commander decided to let it burn and for the run to continue. If I remember it correctly he called an Apache helicopter to "take care" of the tank but by the time the convoy left and the Apache got there, the tank was gone. The Iraqis managed to put the fire out and towed that tank all over Baghdad. They took pictures of it in different locations and "Baghdad Bob" used these pictures in his news conferences to show the world that the Americans are loosing the war and are being pushed back to Kuwait.

Finally Americans have located the tank and took care of it with a missile while it was "picture posing" on the road. You can see the towing vehicle and cables still attached to the Cojone Eh.

So as you can see the mighty armor fell a pray to one bullet going through an oil barrel.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D
I'm sure other members will have something to add or to take away from this...

Balki, barátom! :)
Thank you for the info, now it all makes sense. I was figuring maybe a lucky hit into the optics, to disable the aim and then destruction by someting else, but this story is very interesting!

M1A1 Abrams tank: 6million USD
Training of an M1A1 Abrams tank crew: approx. 500000 USD

The sight of an M1A1 Abrams tank stuck in the mud by the fault of its crew: Priceless

Some things can't be bought with money
For everything else, there's the...

I just love the dude handing the crew a shovel. "Will this help?"

What I want to know is who was the genius who left his hatch open, as in later pics, you an see the tank slide down further into the mud and filled with water.
