I found a new unpublished photo of the LVT(A)-4 "Lady Luck" (D-12 on Peleliu). The photo was forwarded to me from a vet from the 3rd AAB. It clearly shows some of the frontal details such as no markings on the front glacis etc.

Also included a photo of a correct LVT(A)-1 turret that I am building.

thanks for the pic.

im thinking of getting one of the Italeri LVTs, and converting it into a british machine used during the rhine crossings.

are they any good? it appears you get a lot of kit for your money.

cheers

The first pic was taken on Peleliu in Sept 1944. It shows a 3rd AAB LVT(A)-4 which had moved forward from the beach on D-Day. It stopped to get it's bearings when all of the sudden Japanese mortar rounds (150mm) struck near the vehicle, collapseing the soft shoulder of the artillery revetment it was sitting next to. The vehicle slid into the unseen gun position and had to be abandoned. The collapse trapped several Japanese soldiers who were in a small pocket under the vehicle.

The Italeri LVT(A)-4 is a REAL REAL basic kit. The turret and its details SUCK!! Trakz is doing an update/detail set for the vehicle.
