View Full Version : Attaching PE parts

Hello everybody
I am actually a aircraft modeller, but I've been planning to try my hand on an armour subject.
I've been looking at Flip's vBench on his Pz.1 (Flip's Fz.1 (http://www.planetarmor.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=397)).
My question to him (and all of you) is very simple: how do you attach these (very) small photo etched parts without seeing any superglue (or whatever you use)?
Special tools, special glue...?
Thanks in advance,

Hey Bennet,
i usually glue these PE-Parts with Plasticglue.
First i use rough (320) sandpaper to roughen the PE-Part on itīs underside, then i apply a small drop of Plasticglue on it.
Next i place the part on the Plastic and apply some cellulose thinner around it and press the part on.
When i apply the PE on resin, i apply a small drop of CA on the part that was roughend with sandpaper and put it on the surface.
I hope this is some help for you :) .

Keep in mind that many of these parts were welded on (but obviously not leather straps), so the glue that oozes out where the PE contacts the plastic does the job of duplicating the weld bead - whether you use CA or PS glue.

I use several glues to attach PE to plastic. Different glues for different situations.
Regular CA glue
2-part epoxy works best in some situations
Future makes a good bond in some cases as it has a plasticy ,flexible bond.
Matt cote from Humbrol can be used in some applications.
and a favorite because it has stronger sheer strength than regular Ca is "Insta Flex cyanoacrylate"

there are probably many makes of the stuff. ask your local hobby store about it.
Mine is from Canadian Hobbycraft.
for metal to metal I solder. ;)
