They are from milliput and to be honest as simple as sandbags seem i'm never happy with the way they look :o

Gordy -do you have any good reference pics of sandbags. I never see these on German armour- I guess it was an American deal to bolster the armour of the Shermans. Germans used spare track and metal skirts for some extra assistance- I just wonder how why sand bags are a North American phenom?

I'm not sure why sandbags are more popular with Allied armor <shrug>

Dave had provided some excellent photos from the Nat.Arch. specific to particular Shermans.. hanging tracks on Shermans were not uncommon either

Some of the images have some pretty gruesome anti-personell countermeasures such as 10" spikes tack-welded to hatches and thinly armored areas to stave-off the enemy w/mag-mines

some Pac-War Shermans would have:
wood/cement armor hung on the hull sides
wood armor/tack-welded angle-brackets on the bogies
upperdeck loaded down with sandbags
nails/spikes/cages around/on the hatches
nailes/spikes/re-bar on the glacis/turret
tracks/roadwheels hung here and there

and even all of the above on one tank! so- quite a unique variety :)

Howdy fellas,

I will second panzerfaust's request for pics on this subject! I am presently having a 'love affair' with the Sherman as we speak. And in particular I am going through painfully exquisite throughs of AMS pain in Sherman bogey accurizing.

I too am aware of some of the 'anti-personnel' techniques utilized on the Allied Shermans, especially in the PTO. The 'spikes' you spoke of come to mind.

Oops......BTW, I am presently working on creating an aftermarket set of TRUE. 1/35th scale sand bags. I have scratchbuilt them for myself, and at the risk of sounding grossly overconfident, I think they came out superb!

I also agree with the previous poster. All of the AM sandbags I've ever seen have been mediocre at best. So, I came up with a way to make some pretty nice ones.
As soon as I put it all together, I'll post an update if that's alright?
