Here are some pictures of an older model. After years of modelling airplanes, this was my first tank. it's the Tamiya T-55 mainly built out of the box with the exception of the cable and cable clamps.

WOW.. phenomenal weathering... my jaw is dropping.. looking at the detail of weathering at the tow cable and fuel tank bracket photos.. and then imagining that level of weathering is on the whole beast!!1

You've created a masterpiece!

Hey Flip

You've accomplished what each and every one of us strives for. To make a 1/35 scale plastic model look like it weighs 50 tons. Great job and great pics. It really looks good.

Thanks for the nice replies guys !

At first I wanted to to an iraqi T-55 but since everyone is doing those
;) I went for a plain green version.
All painting is done using tamiya acrylics. Weathering was done with oils, humbrol and Mig powders.
Most of the tone differences are done by using the airbrush. Light green, yellow and red filters (Humbrol paints) were applied later
For the shallow chips I mixed the base color (humbrol this time) with flesh. The deeper chips are done with Humbrol brown bess.
Rust marks are made with burnt umber oils.
To weather the fuel tank brackets i first of all painted the upper surface with dilluted humbrol brown bess. (2 layers) After the paint dried thoroughly, I put very, very small dots of burnt umber on the surface and let them dry for an hour. Then, I picked up my airbrush, filled it up with white spirit and misted the with spirit over the bracket surface (low pressure). Don't touch it anymore and let it dry. The with spirit will affect the burnt umber oil paint and will it will start to spread out, resulting in realist looking rust marks.
I repeated this process 'till I was satisfied with the result. Finally I touched the sides with a lead pencil to give them a bare metal look.
Sounds a bit complicated but it isn't. Try it.

Fantastic work on your T-55, Flip. Your Russian green is dead-on, and your weathering effects are perfect !! You have captured the look of an actual 1/1 Russian T-55. The loose tools have given it a neat "lived in" appearence.

Are you planning any crew figures, or a diorama ?

Again, outstanding work, and we all hope to see you do some more armor kits !!

Thanks for posting !!

Greetz !
