How were panzers used to assault cities? As some of you may know, I'm hoping to make a diorama using a couple of tanks from the 204th pz. abt. of the 22nd pz. div. in its July '42 assault on Rostov. I know the 204th was involved in the fighting in the center of Rostov, which is where the Soviets concentrated their armor. Presumably the latter would not have had their tanks out in the open where they would be sitting ducks for Stukas.
Would the Pz IV F2s go in front, because they might better survive a shot from Soviet anti-tank weapons, or would they send the 38(t)s first (or stugs or Pz IIIs).
Would a tank commander in an urban assault have his cupola open and observing from it (presumably with his helmet on) or would he be battened down?
Would the panzergrenadiers riding on the tanks have already dismounted upon entering the city or would they continue riding until contact with the enemy was made?
How would the Soviets use their tanks, mobile (under trees) or hiding in buildings?
