Noob paint question

Okay, I kinda just realized that there are different kind of paints for models.:o So, oil (which is what I used as a kid, only), acrylic, enamel, dry pigments, etc.

Um, obviously I can't mix them, but what types of paint will adhere to what? Most of my paints are acrylic, but I just laid down an enamel primer. In one book I read that plastic and resin don't need primer at all, only metal, yet all the modelers here seem to use it.

I usually use primer on everything I paint. I use mainly acrylics for all my models and using primer helps the paint stick much better to the parts. Otherwise the paint will not cover as well and will start to peel just by handling the model.

I have friends who use enamel paints and they don’t use primer at all. Enamel sticks even if no primer is used.

You can also use primer to create some painting effects like preshading.

I discovered that I don't suck as bad at painting as I thought I did. Amazing what a halfway decent set of brushes can do to help.

Yes, the brushes are the only things that can affect the finnish.
Good brushes is a must. But they are expensive so take good care of them. It pays in the end as it saves you money and most of all frustration.

I cant understand why people put up +200$ for a kit with aftermarket and then refuse to pay more than 3$ for the brush to paint it with?

Funny I was thinking about posting something about this topic the other day- I usually really skimp on my modelling paint brushes but not the art ones. I now use the art ones for my modelling as well as it just allows better results- I too recommend getting decent brushes.
