What purpose did it serve?

What purpose did it serve?

When you have an aerial mounted on the hull of a tank when the turret rotates the deflector would bend the aerial down and stop the gun barrel from damaging it as the aerial would be mounted on a spring base, once the barrel has passed over, the aerial would then spring back up to its upright position

Hope that helps

Okay, that makes a lot of sense.

Mike is right.

Also I just wanted to add that deflectors were made of wood. This was done in order to prevent the metal from the gun touching the antenna and shortening it.

Sturmmann: you mean Pz IV gun deflector was made of wood? I know the Rommelkisten deflectors are made of wood, but I think the ones mounted under the guns was made of metal :(
