Hello everyone!!
After a long absence from PA its time to end the vacation time and join the “Stug-fest”. This time I will be building DML’s Stug III ausf C/D.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/BoxArt.jpg
This will be a very basic build, almost straight out of the box but for minor changes. Since Ruben already started one of these and you guys have seen this model plenty of times I will only highlight the differences I will be adding along.
Since Stugs always have large hatches I took this as an opportunity to show some interior details, mainly the radio. So I cut the area where the radio would go to make room for it inside.

Here is how it looks so far. I finished the suspension and glued the loader’s hatch shut.

The main gun also received some attention. Mainly some putty to hide a few defects.

Thanks Siim,
Well, here is a small update on the builds progress.
I attached the fenders and then primed the interior with flat black.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/1-1.jpg
Next I added the PE engine intake covers.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/2-1.jpg
I added the front tow shackles and used some green putty to get rid of the gap between the two pieces.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/3-1.jpg
After some sanding….
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/4-1.jpg
Next I started on the weld lines. These were done using fine plastic rod. Liquid cement was used to soften it up and I used the knife to shape it.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/5-1.jpg
I also added the weld lines around the side vision port and on the lifting hooks.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/6-1.jpg
And the weld lines around the gun’s mantle.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/9-1.jpg
I gave the interior a coat of off white.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/7-1.jpg
I then put the hatches in place and covered the radio and sight openings in preparation for painting.

As of now that is where we stand. Thanks for viewing and hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Dave- good work so far.
Did you miss the sink marks on the top of the gun mantlet?

DD we are alive again!!!!:D:D, just remember this one doesn't have to turn on
and run because of so much detail, so make it AOOTB=Almost Out Of The Box :D

Good Start. Are you going to use radios from the Aber set or steal them from the Smart Kit Stug G?

Thanks Evan, Actually I will be using one from Verlinden.
Here is a photo of it painted.

Thanks James,
I had not noticed those!! The worse part is that I just read your reply and I already painted it last night!!
I don’t know what I will do, since I would hate to strip it down… we’ll see. Meanwhile here are some pics of the painted hull.

It seems like I missed the boat and June 6th came and went. :( Not letting this discourage me I drove on. And talking about discouragement there was the issue with the sink holes on top of the gun mantle that James pointed out.
After some careful consideration I decided not to strip the gun down and fill these. And while some of you may be twitching right now the average Joe will not be able to tell what those are. So with this in mind we move one.
Once the base coat was done I gave it a pin wash over the details using oils.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/1-3.jpg
Next using pigments I applied them in a downward stroke motion to create this washed dirt look on the hull.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/2-3.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/3-3.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/4-3.jpg
I then used my usual mud mix to apply some mud clumps to the suspension and under the fenders.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/5-2.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/6-2.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/7-2.jpg
Then the roadwheels, tracks and the exhausts went on.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/8-2.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i259/Terraformingrd/Stug%20III%20ausf%20C-D/9-2.jpg
Finally I applied the decals and gave the running gear and the lower hull a light overspray of Tamiya buff.

Hi Dave
You did really a great job.
You should close the hole in the fenders: Below there was an add. metal sheet to support the flaps. ;)

Thanks Robert!
How are things in Vienna? I hope is nice and cool, here is just way too hot.
Anyways, thanks for pointing out the mud flaps issue. I read your post on Ruben’s thread and made a mental note to fix mine. Unfortunately I forgot about it, :( but I will get it corrected as soon as I can.
Looks nice, Dave!
Any stowage planning?
Thanks Andrey
Actually I was thinking of leaving it as it is. The reason is that I built a Stug III B some years back and loaded it with everything but the kitchen sink!! I want to keep this one different so I don’t feel like I am redoing the same thing again.
Hey Dave;

Thanks Gerald! Actually is not finished, not yet but hopefully I am shooting for this Sunday as the finish date so stay tuned. :thumb:

Cool stuff Dave, good to see you posting and doing some modeling.
What are your plans with the running gear, if at all? I am thinking that you might want to add some shine to the track link guide horns and the drive sprocket teeth and idler. It looks a bit dull at the moment.
Keep it cool!

Thanks Siim.
It definitely feels good to be back! :)
I really wasn’t planning to do much more to the running gear, but I see that you are right. A little more shine in those metal parts would look good. Thanks for pointing that out.

Good work man!
Now it only needs a good base to rest on. But I imagine it is on its way, right?
