I found this photo at the archives, it shows USMC tanks on Saipan, around Marpi airfield in July 1944. The scheme on these tanks seems a bit odd. It appears that each corner of the vehicle is painted in a kind of “Stone & Mortar” pattern. Similar to the one used by the British on Malta?

Great pics, Dave ! I agree that its an unusual pattern. Looks like it may have been done at a platoon, or maybe even a company level. Now I'm curious as to what colors were used. I have heard that the Marines sometimes used Navy grey as a camo paint when no other was availible. Interesting anyhow :)

Cheers !
