StuG IV Spät Dragon 1:35

Hello all,

I've managed to finish something :)
It is Dragon's late StuG IV, with some minor details (eg. the barrel travel lock) added, and some parts reworked. I've used Eduard's PE side skirts too.

It was painted with the Gunze Mr.Color paints; weathering was done with Mig's filters&washes as well as the artistic oils and pigments.
Figure is painted with Vallejo's paints (I still have to learn a lot about figure painting...) - it has a glossy appearance, but only the photos - that's my fault. However, I'll give it a dull cote as soon as it is possible.

I'd appreciate any comments, especially critical ones.

Hi Mateusz,

Great work, love the weathering you have been able to achieve. I am only a newbie so by no means an expert but to me the blue glass work on the cupola and the bonoculars seems a bit to much compared to the rest of the model?

Also may i ask what you did to make the rust on the spare tracks so effective- it looks great. Was it with the mig pigments? what base color do you use?

A kopułka to efekt mojej nieuwagi - lampka miała wkręconą za mocną żarówkę, a zostawiłem model na odrobinę dłużej... mam nauczkę na przyszłość :/

Mark - you are absolutely right - I'm going to tone down the vision blocks and binoculars as soon as I get a transparent black paint - unfortunately in my LHS I can buy only Humbrols, so I have to wait until next order in the web.

Rust was painted in a few layers. Firstly, I paint them using the red and orange pastel chalk and Mig's Pigment Fixer. After that some of them gets treatment of earth coloured pigments thinned with the 'dark wash' from Mig Productions. At the end I put some dry pigment, both in earth and in rust colours. It was first time I used that technique, and I'm rather happy with the effects. It may sounds complicated, but in fact it is easy in practice.

I've noticed that Vallejo's can become a little too smooth or shinny when heavily worked over time. So a little trick I picked-up that you may want to try is that if you just put a touch of Tamiya Flat into your paint mix on your palatte everything will remain totally flat no matter how much it's worked.

I think that the green in the periscopes might seem a little bright on my screen, but the overall build looks very nice.

You're right about Vallejos - I use an alcohol as a thinner, and with addition of Talens' retarder it gives them even more shiny appearance.
I'll give a try to your trick for sure, but again - I don't have Tamiya's Flat, so I have to wait until the next order.
