Some of you may have wondered why no updates on the Stug? Well I have been busy over the last weeks trying out some tutorials to learn a 3D program called blender.
My goal is to be able at some point use it to help with some paintings I'm doing for a publication.
It's still early days but I think I'm getting some of the basics. Here is my first attempt at creating something made of several seperate parts and coloured in a very basic way.

Doing box art for Lego now :)?
Looks like a solid start and no doubt you'll have mastered this at in no time.

hehe...
It does look good and I see promise in that area. Yet, the Lego comment is valid since my son saw it and asked for the toy. I bought him Go Diego Go Mega Blocks Jeep ;)
You seem to have gotten the basic down well enough. Vince Wai used built test shots of the model photographed at different angles and used the photo in his rendered box top paintings. The Flammpanzer III some to mind.
This technology would allow you to bypass test shots and hopefully have a quicker turnaround.

Thanks guys.
Rolf - thanks for the links. Do you know of any good ones for vehicles? Also how do you tackle something like the track links?

Well its much better than I could do, but I think as box art, it needs some help, unless of course its for Lego like Saul said, then you hit the nail on the head!

if you are modeling a vehicle you have to set up blueprints (http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials_2/transparent_blueprint/blueprints_01.asp)
then you use the same technology of your first attempt to model all parts;)
Blender tutorial Tank tracks (http://download.blender.org/documentation/oldsite/oldsite.blender3d.org/166_Blender%20tutorial%20Tank%20tracks.html)
more blender tutorials (http://www.blender.org/education-help/tutorials/#c806)
hope this is of help to you

Thanks Rolf!
Regarding the 3D blue print thing _ I was introduced to that from doing a tutorial on a WWI biplane I'm doing so got that sorted. Thanks for the links too.
