Seriously - this is terrific news... I hope it meets the critic's eye well. Let's see what kind of mad dash it creates from the competion...

Hi Rick,

You mean you didn't know?!!! The missus has an Sd.Kfz.8 for shopping trips too.

Nah, I got my grubby paws on someone elses real one and did a photo walkaround as I was building an Sd.Kfz.7/2 at the time. They are much bigger than you'd imagine or more imposing I should say. I think they look a bit sporty too.

Now the only question remains: does DML beat Trumpeter before June?

Niko

will DML beat Trumpeter before June?

I truly hope not as a rushed kit is a poor kit (regardless who makes it).

Truthfully, I'd like to see AFV Club try it.

Niko beat me to it, but how about this scenario: DML doesn't have to rush their kit to market to beat Trump. What if they come across with a believable release date, let's say September. By believable I mean accompanied by box art and/or sprue shots. IIRC Trump lost the Stryker battle against AFV Club, and then the sfh 18 skirmish with DML, at least considering overall kit quality.

After waiting THIS long for a new SdKfz 7 (I was in 5th grade when the Tam kit came out) and given a price competitive with the Trumpeter announcement, would you be willing to wait a few more months for what would most likely be a better kit?

If you're referring to the AFV Club release of the Sd.Kfz. 7, then the answer is a resounding YES!

Hi,
it is possible scenario you say :) I'm still waiting for DML's rendition of Bridge PzIV  I have original Tamiya 7/2 which will be obsolete during this year..I hope, at least...
James pointed Sonic Forum with few pics and 7 looks great! Of course, lot of small parts as in their ZIL(which I have not yet finished) but I'm more motivated to build this model.

Considering that Trumpeter has increased pricing by 25% on the older stuff and 10% on the newer, it all depends which kit price this was comparable to before the increase. Note, while the MSRP I posted is for the US market, the price increases mentioned are for all markets.

Suddenly, Tamiya's kits don't seem that expensive!

Regards,

Don't have to have their kits the day the are released than you will surely be able to get a good deal on this kit. I get my Tamiya and other kit from overseas and usually order a few at a time so the cost of shipping is evened out over several kits. As an example I recently purchased 4 Hobby Boss M4 Tractors at 15.00 U.S. each, 1 Tamiya IS-II at 26.50 U.S., 1 Tamiya U.E. Tractor at 16.50 U.S. and 1 large Lion Roar P.E. set for the Tamiya Krupp Protz towing truck for 3.7mm Pak 36 for 11.50 U.S. shipping was 25.50 for surface (again no hurry). 140.00 total. If I had bought them in the states (from a known on-line shop with less than retail prices) plus shipping would have been 229.05 U.S. God knows what the price tag whould have been if I payed retail for them. The saving in price more than off sets the slow shipping. I am sure I will get at least one of these beast but I won't be paying retail.

Let Rick and I know, I'll take a least a couple off your hands :)

This is starting to look like some kind of old time religious revival - toss in Amens, big hair, and calls for credit card contributions and we could start a church. Seriously, when has the release of one kit filled so many niches. How many unbuilt 88s are there getting fondled and planned for this evening.

Now to post my Tamiya on Ebay before everyone knows :D

Saul, Yes the deals are not quite as good on the Trumpeter kits as the Tamiya. But over all Tamiya, Bronco, Hobby Boss, Acadamy, and to a lesser degree Trumpeter, Dragon, AFV Club and Tristar can be had considerably cheaper than here in the States after the distributer marks them up. For those who do not know this is the site where some very good deals can be had.

TFFT!!
How many years have modelers been bitching about that old dog from Tamiya? 12 years of reading about our hobby on-line and everyone of them has had a request for a better sdkfz. 7:rolleyes:. Well let those that use covert marketing tactics for DML put up or shut up because I think it was the Trumpeter Karl that provoced DML into lifting their game in the first place.

Thanks for the link Roy, I think that on-line shop will be getting some trade from me from now on:cool::cool:.

I've not been here [or anywhere else] for a while and boy am I glad I did to be greetted by this.

What about those tyres........

They must have either mearsured up the restored version rebuilt by my good friend Graham Pipe when in the UK, or since he sold it to Jacques Littlefield in California. As they have copied the modern tyres Graham fitted............

Big mistake to copy restorations that are not accurate, note the second, rearmost, bolted joint on the side mudguards, entirely ficticious, but it is on the Littlefield reproduction body as an error. see photos 2 and 19 of wedsite.

Keep in mind that it may be a pre-production test kit, and those issues could be corrected?

I don't know how far along they are and if the issues can be corrected by them but it is indeed a pre-production shot. I guess someone will put out new resin tires for it. Not a bad idea considering my luck with the rubber deteriorating the plastic in kits on my shelves...

some modeller point out there mistakes on the model, there officer in response to them abuse, but not apologs.
For most of us,We never buy TRM model if Dragon has the same kits.
Dragon's services is quite good in china .

It's only a farmer company,A resin brand killer.but not a good company like Dragon.

Well,

I got the kit last night. Some have already mentioned what is wrong, so let's look at what is right or well done. The complete suspension (including engine, transmission, tracks and road wheels) looks great! The tires can be replaced with something resin since I am not fond of splitting (especially when I haven't finished the kit!)...

Aside from the aforementioned shortcomings, the side storage areas have molded in holders for 2 fuel cans and a funnel. Remove the mounts and use the items as one wishes. These storage lockers had drawers, a-la Famo, with tools. The rear tire storage is missing the pair of wheel chocks used to wedge the tire in place.

The winch wheel is missing the cable lock from the top. Aftermarket to the rescue for sure...

As of now, this is the best Sd.Kfz. 7 kit available! If anyone wants a photo of a particular detail, speak up!

Ropi
