A new project started again... a late production Jagdpanther (better start on this before DML does it :p)
The ingredients:
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa285/Jan-Peters/Jagdpanther/JP.jpg

Tamiya Jagdpanther Late version (duh!)
WW2 production tracks
Fruilmodel sprockets
Fruilmodel Idlers
Aber PE set
Aber cleaning rod tube
Armorscale barrel
Royal model kugelblende
parts of the Dragon Panther G

And I made a start on the lower hull :D

Ruslan, what you see is MEK, which I used to smooth out the scratches left by sanding. I know it looks awfull, but it won't show once painted ;)

Nope, the E-10 is done, just waiting for the name plate to finish it all off, and make the final shots. I hope to get this JP finished in about two months...

Laz, I'm building 303094, produced in april/march 1945, using plans from Mucha's Jagdpanther book. The vehicle will be finished in a diagonal striped patern ;)

Johannes, the outer wheels need to be drilled out a bit

A little more has been done; I made a roled steel surface with glue, filled the unwanted holes, and detailed the left side of the hull. I put the shockabsorber bold on the right side in the right position as well.
Tomorrow there will be another update :D

The flame surpressors and vents are from a DML kit, with Aber brackets. The roof received some details and the front will be fitted with a kugelblende from DML. The driversperiscope is from Aber.

....eduard (1/48 ) voyager...

Was that a choice or because it was what you had on hand? Paul and I had a conversation about using 1/48 for tool clasps (Paul does this) as it appears that it may be more to scale.

Good update, Jan.

Jan Peters
04-28-2008, 02:52 PM
I have 2 reasons for using 48th clamps from Eduard...
1 is the clamps are more to scale
2 they are a one piece item, not 3 parts that won't go together (by me that is) :D

Hi Jan.

The JP is coming along nicely, can you post a pic of the one you're doing?

Secondly, I think your aerial tube may be sitting a touch too high, and your scratch built jack block isn't as convincing as I think it could be. With all the nice work you're doing, it would be a shame to leave the jack block as is. Lastly, is that shovel a bit too long?

Sheeds.

Jan Peters
05-03-2008, 07:26 PM
Sheeds, you are right on all counts, I used the kitshovel for length, but had to atach it in a diferent angle due to clearance problems, the jackblock wil be replaced (or left off) and I'll check the location of the cleaningrod tube, and relocate it if nescesary.
Cheers, Jan :)

Jan Peters
05-04-2008, 01:52 PM
I've scrapped the jackblock, will cut the shovel to length later, and have taken the cleaningrod container (and part of the fenders in the process  ) off the model to re-locate it. Thanks Sheeds, better now then during the painting process :D

Some progress, not too much as I am really enjoying the summer in Holland while it lasts :D

I could not get the fruilsprockets to work for me, so I took the sprockets from the Late G that also donated the late drivehousing. That leaves me with a G without any sprockets, so if any of you have a spare set lying about I would love to hear from you ;)
The sprockets recieved a vague castingnumber
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa285/Jan-Peters/Jagdpanther/JP7014.jpg

The Tamiya idlers are undersized, so I used fruil idlers instead:
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa285/Jan-Peters/Jagdpanther/JP7015.jpg

The hole in the idlers is too big, so I filled the gap with some leadfoil wrapped around the idler arm. It is then pushed in, cut flush and the arm can be glued in place with some super glue.

Banger work, but before you start weathering, you may want to fix up where you lost your colour sequence. :) You'll regret it later if you leave it like that.

Very nice Jan. Great to see such a nice job on my all time favourite panzer, the Jagdpanther. This is one mean (and sexy) machine.

Too late now though, filters are on allready
It's never too late. Make some thin and bright filters with Vallejo, one for each cammo-colour. Then paint these filters in several layers until you get the desired result. For every layer it will be lightened a bit and look less monotone.
I did this procedure on my SdKfz. 251/22, and in the end, it turned out really good.

Good luck and keep it up :thumb:.

I had some trouble with the washing/ filtering as I did not want to put some varnish on the model (to keep the 'primer' red nice and flat) and was about ready to strip the whole model. The spots and streaks were really bad before I went to sleep, but things cleared a bit by themselves the day after.
Just a few pics of how it looks now, after the filters and some fading/ washing with oils and Mig washes:
http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa285/Jan-Peters/Jagdpanther/JP11004.jpg

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa285/Jan-Peters/Jagdpanther/JP11007.jpg
Most of the spots have disappeared, but you can still make some out on the roof and bow. Tonight I will try to fix this, I've put some oilpaints on a piece of cardboard to extract the oils from them, I think the oils make the spots, not the white spirit.
Jan :)

FINbuster
05-21-2008, 03:39 PM
Looking good. I also got spots like that when using enamel paints. My problem was that the spirit i was using was old and dirty, when i swapped to new it worked alot better. One way to get the spots off is to take a cotton bud and dip it in the dissolvent you are using and carefully wiping it over the spots. By wiping it downwards you can create some nice looking rainstreaks too.
Anyways, great looking model, with some weathering those spots will hardly be seen, besides could not spots like that be quite realistic?

Still struggling with those colours ;). Looks nice, and great to see that you're working on the tracks and wheels.

Hi Jan,

Nice progress on this build so far. I really liked the wet/dry mud effect you got going on the glacis and rear plates. Very convinving. :thumb:

How did you do the mud?

MartinD
06-25-2008, 11:20 AM
Hi Jan,

It looks very good to me. Mud is well done, contrast is sharp but lifelike, and there's a lot going on. Nice one :thumb:
Perhaps pick out one of the bolts on the sprockets with some EPR paint, just add a point of interest?

Cheers, MartinD

Jan Peters

The mud is done with pigments and wall filler ;)
Martin, enough EPR on this one allready, the next build will have plenty again ;)

It has been a long week  but I finaly made some progress. I added an armorscale antenna, and a towcable made from dragon endloops and some 1mm steel cable. The tracks still need some attention, please ignore them

The last 5% of work since your last post tied everything together nicely. What did you use for the little branch on the side? It looks like Dill or Fennel (Anise) leaves...nice.

If Im not mistaken Asparagus Plumosa is even finer. Its used as fillout in many boquettes and can be bought fresh, dried and preserved.

Preserved is the best for our use.

Ive made the pines with this a long time ago even if scale is 120mm.
