Depends on where the mud is going to be applied,(on the model or on the ground). Maybe be more specific.
There are dozens of different ways-
How about
mix up some fine powdered dirt and diluted white glue into a thick paste and dabbed it on the frame and tires to represent dried mud.

well, i am going to applied it on Leningradec T-34/76 winter scheme, so it will be on whe wheels, tracks and on the lower hull.

Just Plaster - I prefer Dental Stone cause it has greater compressive strength, but any hardware store will have regular plaster.

Yeah James there really is alot of good things that can serve double duty - including the camera!

I've seen on many magazines that they make mud with pigments+paint in different amounts+plaster or sand in different grains. Sometimes they also use Mig's acrylic resin. You can achieve a mud effect simply with flat paint+ pigments for dry mud or gloss paint+pigments for fresh mud, keeping in mind that the latter is darker and that a pigment mixed to clear paint gives you a darker tone. The trick is not to make a homogeneous mix though!

I use the Molto brand with good results.

You can use acryllic gel used for oil paintings to achieve a more "humid" looking-mud (Then you have to use more gel than plaster and pigments to colour the mix)

Ya that's what I asked before :confused: Different applications call for different methods.

I use whatever be the lenght of my hands: cigarette ashes, sand, plaster, pigments, all mixes with acrilic gel medium. If I want fresh mud, I then apply gloss varnish when it was dry. Try different techs, is funny!
