Received my kit whilst a week ago, I finally(!) had some time today to pop open the kit.

Model depicts a really one-off vehicle, this one belonging to Kompanie Fehrmann, Wietersheim, Germany, 1945. The vehicle was a late hull with an early turret. Why this vehicle was I don't know, could the turret have been from a Sturmtiger conversion and was slapped on to a late hull? Kit turret supposedly has features such as places where stuff like smoke dischargers were cut off. The CAD on the side of the box shows the vehicle with fenders, yet the box art shows it without - I am guessing that, since this vehicle was a "rush job," this little amenity was left off.

Kit features full hull machine gun, dust cover for same, photoetch screens for intakes, metal tow hooks, turned aluminum barrel with metal spring (so that we can have the main gun recoil whilst making "kachow, kachow" sounds - just kidding on the latter), brackets for hanging "Magic Track" from turret. One downer are the tracks, they're full runs in DS plastic - after market to the rescue here. Decals are only for one vehicle - these consist of three "F 13" in what looks like white chalk, and four "Balken Kruez" which were not used on the real vehicle. Also, you are given two types of muzzle brake, which should not be. Just use the one on the box art is my best guess.

I'm going to start on this one. It's weird, but then, so am I.

Walter; from studying the photos, and considering where the tank came from, I think it's an Early with its original hull and turret, but with new wheels and tracks.

The photos were taken in 1946 and they show all the fenders missing - but photos taken of the other tanks in the unit, taken just after the battle, show that some of them still had fenders. Since this tank had spent 2 years in a training unit, there's no obvious reason it would have lost its fenders. I asked Dragon to make them optional parts.

On the other hand, all the Tigers in the photos had lost their S-mines and Feifels. I assumed they were removed the year before, since they were no longer relevant to training for Tigers. So they're not in the kit - well, not all the parts you'd need.

Use the large muzzle brake.

Keep an eye on this site for corrections to the kit instructions, comments etc.:

David,

Thank you for the input, I could have made a major error building it as is.
