Hola Guys,

Here is my first sculpt since the move! It is a 1/35th scale WWII US Combat Medic. There are very few medics out there, and I haven't found one yet with the Medic Harness and the two larger bags so I decided to do one.

I've always had a great admiration for combat medics, it has be one of the toughest jobs in the military, to have to see your friends get shot up and then try to patch them up the best you can.

Anyways, here are the pictures. I couldn't find the gray primer anywhere so had to shoot it with Tamiya Yellow Sand, didn't work very well as you can see, the surface is very rough.

The large bags presented a bit of a problem, one of my pet peeves with figures are bags etc that are just glued on and just sit on the figure without being attached to anything. So to do this the bags had to be sculpted onto the main part of the figure so the straps could be sculpted onto the figure and attched to the bags, just like they are in real life. This created a different challange in making the molds as the bags created huge undercuts, but I think it worked out ok in the end.

I'll be painting this figure soon and he will be released shortly by Helo Miniatures.

A couple of shots of the main piece right out of the mold.

That weird...I was just watching an episode of Band of Brothers the other night...Bastonge, which focuses on the medic, and feeling the same admiration.

Nice work Anders.

:thumb: :thumb:.....What else can one say? :D

I recently finished "Infantry Aces The German Soldier in Combat in WWII", by Stockpole Books.
The only German Medic to recive the Knights Cross was Feldwebel Franz Shmitz, of the 3rd Co. of the 279 Grenadier Regiment. A truely impressice medic; over 2000 men rescued and treated. Onec 98 in one day alone. Just an idea for a future project mabey?

Nice!!! Looking forward to seeing that, and this will make an excellent companion to the Dragon medic. Yes, one plastic figure with harness and both bags included :D:rolleyes:...

Great work Anders! :thumb:

Beautiful!
The facial expression resembles REM's Michael Stipe and Tom Hanks!

Thanks guys!

Rick,
BoB Is a great series, there is so much inspiration from it! The Bastogne episode is a good one too!

Mark,
I agree, Feldwebel Franz Shmitz would make for a nice figure! Especially if portrayed in action.

Martin,

Yes, you are correct, DML have a set with a medic in him, as matter of fact I love that set, I just wish the poses of the acctual figurs matched those on the box art a bit closer.

Thanks James!
The head was sculpted by Mr. John Long, the guy who started Helo Miniatures with me. He does some excellent head sculpts!

Thanks again guys. I will post more pictures of the painted version as well as the other releases from Helo in the near future.

outstanding figure anders! :thumb:

i agree that this is really impressive and franz schmitz (http://www.ritterkreuztraeger-1939-45.de/Infanterie/Heer-Startseite.htm) also received the silver close combat clasp and the golden wounded badge

i disagree that he was the only medic to receive the knight's cross ... sanitäts-feldwebel d.r. rudolf bäcker also received the knight's cross in 1943 (and the german cross in gold plus silver close combat clasp) ...

cheers

Personally, I think that's DML best Allied figure set to date! The poses are good, would have been superd when matching the box art that bit better, but the figures are very handy.

I'm looking forward to seeing more Allied releases from Helo, if there are any plans?

I don't think I will have time to do a SBS, maybe sometime in the future though! Im a bit swamped at the moment.

As for DML figures, they look great on the sprues, but when you put them together they really look awkward and un natural. That is atleast my experience from putting together a few sets lately to see what they looked like. IMHO it would take quite a bit to make a DML figure look nice, but then again, thats just me :)

As for more allied subjects, yes! We are doing several US WWII subjects in the coming months. Im a bit tired of German stuff, although we are releasing a Hetzer crew in the next couple of weeks.

Would you make me one if I ask you? I'm not good in sculpting at all, and I'd need a paratrooper medic... Otherwise, your medic is great!:thumb:

Thanks guys!

I'll be hoping to put some paint on this guy the second half of this week!

As for a Paratrooper medic...all you need to do is change the boots, pants, jacket, add some straps to the helmet and maybe change up the harness a bit :) Could be a fun conversion project :)

Haha Rick :)

It was ment in a joking way :) I thought about the possibility of converting it into a para, and realized a completely new sculpt would be required as pretty much everything need to be different.

Howdy Anders...the line keeps getting bigger and bigger!!!! Congrats, it's a nice addition.

You know, I was thinking about you in regards to this TargetRange discussion. Your work, perhaps more than anyone elses, is constantly under scrutiny.....in your case it's called the Market - whether your figures get purchased or not. The stakes are higher and the consequences are real.

Hola Rick,

Yeah, you are right! Trying to come up with something that people are interested in and willing to purchase is not easy. Especially in todays market with so many high quality products competing for the consumer dollars. To find out what people want is also rather tricky, as everyone have their own special interest areas, which is usually a very specific time frame, and that is hard to cater to.

Hello Anders,

I'll get me one of these guys. Did you get my PM?
Oh, and thanks for the Master Class Workshops torsos ;) ... they will come in very handy.

Hola Martin,

I just checked and yes, I got your PM! Thanks for the advice, I had forgotten about that site.

Im glad you enjoyed the mannequins! I hope the workshop was a success and that you will use what you learned (as well as the mannequins) and sculpt something!! If you need more advice or have any questions let me know and I'll do what I can to help.

Hi Anders,

I'll try and finish the figure I started, and then I'm keen on trying to get something like this:

This seems like a good project to start to me. If I need any help, I'll give a yell

Best, MartinD
