WOW!! Beautiful kit. It's almost a shame to cover it with paint.

That is cool! Except, I know of a barrel that has a real twist to the rifling ;) Should I take a photo? :D

Ya go ahead. The more reference the better :D
Tsk tsk- why look at the glass half empty? I'm really not too sure how important something like that would be to most modellers. The rest of the stuff in the set looks pretty good as far as an upgrade in scale width of metal parts etc. Is it really about building an exact miniaturized working replica of a subject? If this is your standard no wonder you never finish anything :p:) Perfectionism is a real hindrance to getting anything done. I would think the indicated grooves on the end of the barrel, giving the impression of rifling, would suffice for most modellers. Most people will not be shining a flash light down the barrel to see if the spiral rifling is there. You could take any model out there and find dimensional faults or other flaws till the cows come home. For me there is a limit to the pursuit of getting every little detail right.

Oh, I never thought that the glass was half empty, what I like to see is the progression towards greater detail and accuracy. I have not bothered to check if the correct number of lands and the proper twist is present even though I have such data. In the end, I personally am just happy for the increased efforts to outdo each other as it all benefits the modeler in the end. :)
As for never finishing any of my personal builds, well...I have been diagnosed with ADD. So, small projects and spurts suit me best.

Do you mean ADHD? Sorry to hear that- that explains a lot!
Looking at the symptoms maybe I should get a check up! Seems like I have almost all of the indications!
DSM-IV criteria for ADHD
I. Either A or B:
A. Six or more of the following symptoms of inattention have been present for at least 6 months to a point that is disruptive and inappropriate for developmental level:
1. Often does not give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.
2. Often has trouble keeping attention on tasks or play activities.
3. Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.
4. Often does not follow instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions).
5. Often has trouble organizing activities.
6. Often avoids, dislikes, or doesn't want to do things that take a lot of mental effort for a long period of time (such as schoolwork or homework).
7. Often loses things needed for tasks and activities (e.g. toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools).
8. Is often easily distracted.
9. Often forgetful in daily activities.
B. Six or more of the following symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity have been present for at least 6 months to an extent that is disruptive and inappropriate for developmental level:
1. Often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat.
2. Often gets up from seat when remaining in seat is expected.
3. Often runs about or climbs when and where it is not appropriate (adolescents or adults may feel very restless).
4. Often has trouble playing or enjoying leisure activities quietly.
5. Is often "on the go" or often acts as if "driven by a motor".
6. Often talks excessively.
Impulsiveness
1. Often blurts out answers before questions have been finished.
2. Often has trouble waiting one's turn.
3. Often interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g., butts into conversations or games).
In any case I will be getting the kit and will post close ups as the project goes together.

No, I do not suffer from the Hyperactivity part...if I did I would not need to diet! :D
From the first list, 4 to 9 are my indicators, the other two sections do not pertain to me...
Actually modeling helped tremendously as I would flit about from reference book to bench, and complete small parts of a model as best as I can. Once in a while, I would complete an OOB build and was compelled to get rid of it before I started picking it apart and trying to improve it.
Sad, I know...

Okay but I can check uh-huh for everyone of the symptoms! I gotta show this to my girlfriend. Maybe it'll cut me some slack!

to further the discussion on the spiral barrel- there is one available now from Lionmarc

While it does have the spiral- it seems a bit rougher on the end, there appears to be dings and a roughness to the end of the barrel that doesn't appear on the Griffon one. The grooves seem a little uneven in how they look on the end. I don't have either one of the barrels but they have been ordered. I wonder if there is any advantage to a spiral compared to one without, if the one with a spiral appears rougher on the end. But I guess you could try sanding the end, but I wonder how cleanly? Anyways- I really have no axe to grind with which is better- I will post pics and my opinion once I get a chance to look at them both.

Ohhh, Shinny Stuff! :)
If I could go back to basics, for just a moment. The first time I ever heard of Griffon Models was when Erik was ordering it for his Pz38. So I cruise over to their website (via James' link ;)) and I see that they have quite an extensive line. So my question is, how long have they been in existence, and has anyone used their products yet?
It all looks really nice.
thanks,
Larry Bates

I did order a set for something I'm going to build, I think it was in the sdkfz.234 area. I was impressed when opening the package, but really can't comment any further. I'll try to locate the particular kit Rick and give you a quick rundown.
