as mentioned i started with the ausf b yesterday!
the working suspension is a dream and very clever realised! :thumb:
today i focused on the interior and painted it as i want to build all hatches open (well only those of the fighting compartment)
in the photos the interior looks far more dirty than it is in reality but no one will see the details anyway when finished and with figures added :D

Laura
You a leader of our project no doubt about that :)
I have never seen Tamiyas Ausf.B being build before and I must say it really looks nice. Might get one some day as well.
Nice progress on your kit, smooth.

Can't wait to see more. Have decided on what unit this Stug will be attached to?
I'm regretting not picking up this kit when they were going for $15 at a LHS recently.

up to now i want to attach it to StuGAbt. 197 if i will succeed in printing out decals ... if not i will use one of the proposals of tamiya but don't know wich one yet (maybe the StuGAbt. with the edelweiss as insignia)
if you see this kit for a bargain again take it ... fairly basic with not so much parts but veryvery good quality (and still - the working suspension still amazes me most)

to make it short - this was the %#*&§ day of this year so far in all aspects ... but here i will mention the modelling aspects only: i noticed knock out marks on the most visible parts after having painted (had thought that they wouldn't be visible after fitting in place - hahaaaa, what a good laugh! crap!), the little h0 gauge brass chains absolutely didn't want to be glued in place and drove me insanely crazy! crap!), i noticed a bigger problem area and don't know what to do there (pic further down - need your advice guys! ... crap!), the front tow hooks didn't fit (crap!) and last but very not least after cleaning of my badger100 while reassembling the thread of the cone broke off and stuck in the ab main body :yell: ... now i have to order a new cone :yell:  :yell: - and to complete the fun badger changed the part numbers for ordering so now i don't know yet which part i will have to order and wait for the answer of my ab supplier (turbocrap!) ...
okay i got three ab's but the badger100gfx is my working horse and i really like the work with it (am most used to that ab)
crap!
progress so far:

Ok that explain a lot of things MDR, you have nice habits ;) which movie ?
concerning the gun mantlet, i find few things - not really picture of the Stug B but will probably help
- First The Aber point of view (see the PDF instructions on this link)
http://aber.net.pl/detal/desc/sturmgeschutz_iii_ausf_b_c_d_0862380/
http://aber.net.pl/detal/desc/sturmgesch_tz_iii__ausf_b__sd_kfz__142__vol_3___in terior_090205018/
will be helpful if you plan to scratch somethings
And some finish stug, you can see that it seems to have some piece of tissue and also the mounting part :
Of course, this is on G model but i think that i doesn't evolved a lot :

maybe "tais-toi!" or "vidocq" or "les visiteurs" or "wasabi" ... we will see and decide together which one (i am not at home any more, i am at my friends computer ... and i bet a whole month of not modelling that we will watch "les visiteurs" although i am for "wasabi" :D )

90% finished so far thanx to rammstein (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUEyYuZkjVI)'s songs ...
as i wanted to build most hatches open i wanted to open the drivers sight but tamiya doesn't provide a glass block ... "no prob - got a glass block in the spares box!" was my first thought and just after gluing the protector in open position i noticed i don't have a clear glass block in the spares box :yell: ... so it was improvisation time again :o

:D
then i focused on the tools (just ignore that badly warped antenna trough ... please!)
and added the cabling to the lights ... tomorrow i'll do all the wheels and hopefully when the new head for the airbrush will be delivered the it's color time :D

erm ... one topic remaining: the smoke grenade discharger box is nothing but a very very bad joke of tamiya (wrong shape, empty inside and no smoke grenades!) and i will cover it with a tarp ...
... relaxing time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5dm7AYZ-tg) now!
cheers
EDIT ( :o ): before painting the lower half of the vehicle will be "rick lawlered" of course :) ... and after having a look at the aber instruction i found out that detailing and pimping the area behind the gun mantle is too complicated for my momentary skills - so i'll have to live with it as it is ...

Question, Is this vehicle supposed to have ivory painted in the hatches, like the early war tanks? Becuase the hatches were the exterior colour.
that's the big X in the paint story for me ... at first i was undecided if grey or ivory but then decided to go for ivory/white because
- the ausf b was early war production
- the wehrmacht had air superiority at this time (spring 1941) so not too much need for camo against aircraft ...
i am well aware of the fact that normally the hatches were painted the outside colors and not the interior ... but still i am not sure if this applies to early war stugs and hatches of that period opening to the top and not to the sides ...
if i am wrong and someone corrects me i'll gladly repaint the hatches (try to!!!)

Laura, I know you already changed hatch colour but I have just found this picture in the web. I know its coloured but it confirms you changed it to the right one.

Howdy Laura....stug is done to 99% - only minor works left - please include a little touch-up of the wash/tide marks around the bolts on the roof between the hatches. ;) It's and easy fix, so it would be a shame to let something like that detract from a nice looking build.
Otherwise, she rocks!

That is one very good looking StuG. I like the weathering you have done. And so just after we started with project we have one nearly finished perfect StuG. Or sorry did I say "one", I should have said "two" as your Ausf.F is nearly done as well. Kewl :)
Are you tired with StuGs for now or are you gonna go for a next one since we have some months till the project ends?

drybrushing? ... i'll do so as those spots irritate me also ...

some kind of chris ... i feel a little bit "exhausted" and as i still got almost 4 months for another one i'll take a stug break to do something else for refreshing ... maybe the avf flak18 with pe and tamiya sd.kfz.7 with pe and friul or the italeri sd.kfz 232 (6-rad) ... we will see ... first i got to finish those (and do all the figures in parallel - but i got time)
Nice and Durty :p
a panzer has to be dirty - gives the vehicle atmosphere and character otherwise it would be boring! :D

yes - those tracks are friuls ... they are the wrong type but absolutely the same that you get with the original kit (but more detailed than the vinyl rubberbands)

not much left to do here also ... rusted the muffler, painted the rubber bandages of the wheels and tried to touch up the tidemarks on th roof as rick mentioned ... remaining: painting the jack block and touching up the towing cables ...
