Andrey, that's an interesting color plate...with the base camo, then the worn whitewash it would be a (fun) challange.

Hi Andrey
I am smallscaler, so I do not know the kit exactly. But I noticed some details at the box cover which do not match together: According to missing Zimmerit and muzzle brake the StuH was produced after 09/44 . At this period the gear wheel was without central thread for cover plate and the hatch stop was cancelled (flat hatch, when open). According to "Assault gun 3, backbone of the Infantry" , publish by Historyfacts, the fender support, made of pipe with add. steel triangle was attribute of MIAG production, but only Alkett built StuH. There should be a travel clamp also. Btw the towing bar at the back was introduced at 12/44.
Regards from Vienna/ Austria
Robert

I think it'll be very usefull in this build.
Maybe you can post some drawnings with different production vehicles?

Pretty nice detailing so far, but I'm wondering. Why didn't refine all the weld seams? The add-on armour is done, but around the cupola is another weld seam. Just curious ...

Andrey, I know nothing about these crawlers other than they
are a SPGs.

SPGs or arty are my favorite form of AFVs.
The last model I built was a car, I think, when I was fourteen.

Now that i'm retired, the plastic beast has called me back to duty
and I have reported with a JT on the bench right now.

That's why i'm watching you and this build,to get an idea about
how to do mine when the time comes.

You're doing a great job so far

Next udate.
Camo applied.
I use Tamiya acrylics for it.
I'm not satisfied by results at all.
Lets see wat can i do using washes and filters.
Maybe they will bring some interest to model.

Or to make a winter camo and this ugly camo wouldn't be visible )).

Andrey,

Any specific reason why you are not happy with the results? I think the cammo came out alright.

The only area where maybe you should add more gree or brown is on the right side next to the engine vents.

But other than that, it looks fine to me.

Dave

I incline to do a small winter vignet with abandoned Stuh in winter white wash, halfly bounded by snow, few foot steps near and nothing else.

Fanniest parts is ahead, as Rick says.

Do I say that?

Andrey, man you are being way too hard on yourself. As you said, this is only the beginning!!!! But since you seem somewhat unsatisfied with what you've got......
.....if I were to offer a suggestion to these base (camo) colors it might be only to lighten and brighten them up a little before you begin the weathering. You know me, I've been playing with from going from a very light/bright initial finish, then darkening through the washes and filters...but that's just my thing!

As I've said before, I REALLY like the inspiration photo for your build...I'm fairly jealous that you found it first. :yell:

Or something like that ;)

if I were to offer a suggestion to these base (camo) colors it might be only to lighten and brighten them up a little before you begin the weathering

By oils and after that filters and washes?
And one wore question about painting steps for my Stuh:
base camo - different stuff (hatches, etc) - lightning and brightning (oils?) - scratches - old mud appling (migments) - filters/washes - white camo - filters/washes - snow appling
Am I right? Any suggestions?

Damn, I feel my self as a beginner - no ideas, no inspiration, no experience....
Crysis... Vocation needed... One month to go, first for the last 4 years... First Turkey, then Lithuania.

I'm fairly jealous that you found it first.

Don't worry! I have plenty of photos - the next is yours :).

RickLawler
07-11-2008, 08:50 AM
Yep, your sequence is basically correct. I'd do the brightening first with the airbrush..then onto the remainder of the weathering. Remember, for me anyway, these steps are NOT linear...I go back and forth all the time making adjustments with whatever seems to be appropriate.

Damn, I feel my self as a beginner - no ideas, no inspiration, no experience....

I think that school is taking it's toll....you'll be ok once everything settles down.

First Turkey, then Lithuania.

The only things that look out of place is the color of the periscopes and the color of the light in the rear fender. I don't know if it's my monitor but they look too blue. They should be darker, I usually paint the periscopes dark blue and the light a dark purple.

Good, still progress. Andrey, you should get ahold of Jon Lange (exhaustfumes) here on PA, he did the StuGIII with a new snow product that works very well. He's part of my local club and I've seen the work in person...impressive effects.

Thanks Rick!
I'll think about it.
Can you give me a link to his thread or where i can see the results?

I afraid that if i'll change the soda to something else on this dio - the results will look different.
So this dio i'll finish with soda snow method and next time i'll use something else.

Thanks Dave, Marco and Ruben!

It's hard time now in Russia - f*cking economy crisis.
A lot of work (I'm a project manager in online recruitment company) and less of free time :( .

Hope to finish it in month or two.
