With the new Tamiya kit out and the Premium Edition Dragon kit on its way, here are a few photos to help you out. Hopefully others will join and post their own photos of IS-2 tanks.
This is what is left of IS-2m number 441 of the 7th Guards Tank Battalion (104th Guards Heavy Tank Regiment) which was destroyed in Berlin in May of 1945 with a heavy caliber hit to both sides of the turret. The right penetration was at the bottom and just of the right of the first '4' in the number 441. The left penetration was on the polar bear insignia. The hits blew out all the hatches and dislodged the mantlet off the gun.
US Troops removed the turret and brought it to Aberdeen Proving Grounds (APG) in Maryland. The turret shell was scrapped and the gun was kept in storage.
Luckily, like the Ba-64B armored car and a few choice pieces, they were taken over by the Military Museum of Southern New England in Danbury Connecticut, where they have been freshened up and placed on display.
