i am very interested in joining the gb if nobody minds :)
i'd build an StuGIII Ausf. B (tamiya's 35281) since a short barrelled StuG is still missing in my stash ...
one suggestion though: wouldn't it be better if a pa group build was organized like in migs community? open a new group build subcategory where everybody can create an own build thread instead of (over)loading one thread with many builds?
cheers

Happy that you are willing to join. Welcome on board. And your suggestion is very good.
Gordy,
Would that be possible to create a place for group builds?
If you could create it for us that would be great.

most cool being on board of a group build! :thumb:
after some research i decided to do a StuG of "Sturmartillerie Abteilung 197" (just because of the unit insignia ... unfortunately '232' was established too late (but i still have a f/8 built and ready that i can repaint :D for '232'))
a very good resource for sturmartillerie can be found here: Die Sturmartillerie (http://www.die-sturmartillerie.com/wappen.htm) - unfortunately in german only ...

Welcome Jamie
Guess its a ausf.G and you will be using DML Smart Kit ? You are already at the list. Cool damage this one has.
Thank you very much for link Laura. Will go through it and luckily Deutsch should not be much of a problem here. :)
Wrote to Gordy about new space for group builds. When I get answer from him will let you all know where we are.
Think if we have that space we can make a thread with useful photos for our project and for future needs. I have some photos that I could share here for reference.
Chris
I can try to join as I got DML smart kit. But I cant promise as work keeps me very busy this day so I can start building but I do not know when i will be bale to finish 8-/

Does time go that fast?:D :O Yeah I know we have talked about it and you even send me those fenders to use on tamiyas stug. Btw I tought to use em on that ancient dml late ausf.G to make sturmi that came summer 44. But for early sturmi dragons smartie is best. I also have friul tracks for that.
It's a small step for mankind but huge leap to me but I'm going to take that.:D :)

Krzysztof, I really don't know what to do first - StuH 42 or StuG III C/D. There's a lot of pe work with StuG III C/D and I'm going to buy Hold and Fold and soldering machine before I'll start doing it. So I think StuH 42 OOTB will be first.
Could you change it in the list?

Maybe I'm missing something but i didn't see the deadline date if there's one?
As some people are bad with finishing models, i wonder how will this GB will go as there will be people that won't be able to work fast.
If some one got Concord's "Panzer-Division in Russia" #7047 on the page 40 is a stug that i'm thinking on doing.

That would be the D-Day June 6th Ruslan. If the project will go well and there will be a need we always can move it forward. But for the moment its the D-Day. Hope this is okay?
By the way, I have just found some nice reference pictures from StuG III in Cartahena. Belive its the Ausf.G?

Hi
I've decided to go with a StuG III F. I will make it as a vehicle from one of the Abteilungs fighting in Stalingrad (StuG Abt. 244 or 245, doesn't really matter to me, 'cos they were both involved in the fighting).
But here's my question concerning this project. Does anybody know if a painting scheme of panzer gray with dark yellow wavy lines over it would be appropriate? I know that Grossdeutschland had Stugs painted in that kind of pattern at this time. Can anybody provide some information?
I'll make a dio for it as well :) as usually.

Hmm Not sure. I do know there were Dark Yellow StuG F at Stalingrad, and Stug F in the scheme you noted in the Crimea with the StuG Abt that became Schwere Panzerjager Abt 653, but most of them were stubby stuggies, most of the pics of their F's where in winter white wash.
Not helpful, I know, but a step in the right direction?

How about a Stug IIIF from Stug Abt 197. Stug Abt 197 was the precursor to s.Pz.Jg.Abt 653.
There are a number of photos of a whitewashed (with upainted brown/black barrel) Stug IIIF (Fahrgestall no 91284 - if I remember correctly) in Trojca's book of the same name.

Hello
Thanks guys. Your right John that it's a step in the right direction.
Lawrence I want to make a StuG of that kind in Stalingrad because I have a quite nice idea about the setup of the scene. I wanted to paint my StuG in an interesting scheme and the pz.gray./dark yellow is the very best for a StuG III F from 1942 I think. I want this scene to be in september/october so without snow. Rather in a scorched and dusty industrial terrain.

Come on, its a group build thread. Everybody is most welcome to post anything regarding our project here. :) Hopefully we will have that new space that Gordy promissed where we can set a separate thread with photos and reference as well. I have gone through HDD and I am sure I'll find some nice ones to show for our project.

Welcome to the StuG project. You can start working now or whenever you will have time but the deadline for the moment is set for D-Day 6th June.
Look forward to your build updates. We are waiting now for a new space here at PA for Group Projects and hopefully we will see new ones open soon.

Hello again :)
I've managed to get through references earlier today, and unfortunately I didn't find any interesting photos of an early Ausf.G. Of course I can follow DML's painting schemes, but I don't trust them at all...
That's why I ask for help - maybe one of you have the photos of early StuGs III G, in the two-tone camouflage scheme (Dunkelgelb + Olivegrün)? I'm especially interested in the Großdeutschland's StuGs, as well as in ones from the II.SS-Panzerkorps.
I would appreciate any help :)

I have a question regarding tracks. Which Modelkasten track set would be most apriopriate for the StuG IIIG Early version from DML Smart Kit?
Guess that would be maybe SK-18 or SK-23 or maybe SK-24???
I have done some progress with the kit. Rear deck is 98% done and just started interrior.

Both hollow and solid guideteeth tracks were used at early stug III ausf.g. So SK-18 and SK-23 both goes. SK-24 I have seen used at ausf.B model sturm. Hore this helps.

sure it's no StuH in the reference but this is just one vehicle out of thousands and the pix of the StuH's aren't covering all the vehicles also ... so i thought it was of not much importance if it was a StuGIIIG or not ... you see my point?

Ruslan,
Yes its designed for DML StuG III G Smart Kit and obviously for other DML kits based on it like Georg Bose or the Cyber-Hobby one with deep wanding muffler.
There are 4 sets in total as far as I know. The exterrior one is missing here and also there is a fender set. They just came out to the market recently.
John,
That is very good news. Hope you will be able to find these pictures :)
For a moment I am not sure whether it had the additional armor bolted or welded. Some other angle pictures might help here. I think i see some bolts in front of acces hatches, but I am not really sure if its just me or they are really there.

there was a nice parcel waiting for me with my new stuff and the german tamiya distributor did it again  ... they cut away all StuGAbt 192 insignias just because they are skulls - not that i wanted to build a vehicle of that particular Abt. but i really hate it when i feel patronised like that and am deprived of my free decision! :mad: :yell: :yell: :yell: (a skull itself isn't forbidden anyway and this is just pathetic and ridiculous! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh!)
cheers
Thanks gods that ain't happening in finland. I want to build my B as a 192 abt(actually started already:D) and I would have had to kill somebody if same thing has happened here.;)
Shadow of the near history is just too long in germany. In my opinion river has flowed under the bridge enough to let go. Not to forget but to forgive. Just my two cents.
