Since we have a flood of red star armor here at PA recently :p thought to start something that would stand in the way of the red army ;) and other allies as well. Its a well known, very nice Smart Kit.
It came to my mind after recent shoppings which are here

Three Stugs on a pile that is too much LOL. So started with the basic smart one.

Here is where I stand now

Since heared some people were gonna buy new StuGs maybe we can make this thread a group build ? StuGfest ? If anyone would like to start new one or finish already started StuG III G is very welcome to participate in this thread.

I have gone through Marcos, Johns, Warrens and Manuels threads carefully looking for some tips. Pardon my ignorance if I missed someones thread.
Will share what I have learned while going throug these threads.

No specific paint scheme chosen yet but guess might be looking for a plain yellow one. Ideas welcome. :)

The "dark side" will be well represented by your build, Chris. Always a pleasure to watch your work.

envy, envy ... envy :)

Well nice choice Krzysztof, and nice progress so far.

Btw how does the DX '07 differ from the 6320 kit? the decals only?

I wish I had a Stug III in the stash :yell:.

the DX07 one has a welded plate at front whereas the "standard" smart kit has the additional plate screwed on, as this is īsupposed to represent a vehicle being built a few earlier than the DX07.

Not too hard to change from screwd on to welded plate, though.

Thx vm support Rick, John, Dan and Erik. :)

Erik the DX'07 differs with two things from original Smart Kit.
1. Decals
2. Sprue with flat additional armor plates for front of the hull and front of the upper structure.

If you would like I can take picture of that additional sprue later?

The PE fret is same as in basic skit.

Hello Krzysztof,

Nice to see you working. There are never too many StuGs!
I like the idea of the group build. I've already started building my Smart Kit, and I know there are some unfinished StuGs here, on the pA... Maybe the group build would encourage people to terminate their builds? :D

Mateusz

Chris

Looking forward to see your Stug in action. We need more Stugs! :D

How do the Ausf M mufflers look? I guess they are re-tooled from the older DML kits.

Lawrence

StuGruleeez ;)

They look new DML quality I would say so either its retooled old muffler or we can expect Pz.III Ausf.M soon on the market as the sprue says Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.M Its defenately not the quality that was used when the old Pz.III M was produced. Will take a picture later and post it.

Mateusz,

Happy to hear that you have started the Smart Kit so if you would like to join group build you are more than welcome to share your work with us either in this thread if we can make it a group build thread. I like the idea of group build as it puts a little pressure in your mind to finish the project. Maybe just that little bit of pressure that is needed for me to finish something at last. :p
Any speciic wehicle you have decided for ?

Marco,
I went carefully through your thread. Splendid job you have done on it. Did you have a chance to paint it already? By the way while going through you thread noticed two things. You might have spare wheel holders mounted the wrong way as the DML instructions shows wrong them wrong way. But since you have tracks wrapped around them its not visable at all I think. Another thing is that maybe you have placed access hatches on the left front plate the opposite way that they should be ?

So what's the deadline for the group build? I would like to participate but I have to finish at least two projects that I'm currently working on.

Radek

Cześć Radek,

I do not have any experience so far in starting group projects. :(
What would be the time that will allow you to get on board? 2-3 months, D-Day ?
Would be great pleasure to see your version of StuG as your skills are simply outstanding. I would be very happy if we could set the time that would allow some more people to join and show what they can do of StuG G's? German, Finnish or other.

Another thing. If we start group build is it okay to show it here in thread I started or shall we open a new thread with a group build in name and. Whats your oppinion on that?

A very nice StuG build. Forgive my ignorance guys, but who was Georg Bose?

He is Darren,
He was platoon commander of Sturmgeschutz-Abteilung 177 during operation "Zitadele" Destroyed 42 tanks and was awarded with Knight's Cross, Iron Cross first and second class. He is living now in Frankfurt am Main.

Krzysztof,
Of course I would like to participate in the group build. Especially now, when I put my model to back the box, due to the fact that I have to add nuts, bolts and other small details to the interior. Some sort of a deadline and of course progress photos of other builders might force me to make them ;)

Unfortunately, I'm rather slow builder - I'm not sure if I would be able to finish it in the 3 months time. I hope that is not an obstacle to joining the group build...

Here is the photo, that shows progress I've already made:

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/5189/dsc07693id9.jpg

I've not decided yet if I would try to represent a specific vehicle. I'm still looking for nice photos of the StuGs from the Italian front and ones used during the "Zitadelle".

Radek,
That's great that you' are going to build StuG too. I hope we would see it sooner or later.

Mateusz

Hello
Dzięki za miłe słowa Krzysiek.
I think that I'll be ready with other stuff in a month so the 3 moth deadline is fine for me. I'm always involved in at least two projects at one time.
Mateusz I actually have 3 StuGs Ausf. G - old gunze, tamyia (these two are started) and new dml's smart kit. I like these vehicles very much. I also have ausf F, F8 and B in ma stash :] all waiting for their turn.

Hi,

Yes, StuGs are lovely, aren't they? :D
Nice stash Radek. I'm going to build a few more StuGs in future, but I decided to wait until DML release retooled late version as well as the short-barreled ones (I'd like to see Premium Edition of them...).

One more question Krzysztof - the group build would involve only StuGs III Ausf.G, or other Ausführungs as well? Or maybe StuHs and StuGs IV too? :p

Mateusz,

Bardzo się cieszę, że ty i Radek postanowiliście dołączyć do zbiorowego projektu.

Slow builder ;) huh tell me about it. Same here.

So maybe we can make the deadline of some historic day - end of WW2 or D-Day ?

Do not want to go beyound D-Day with deadline cause have the idea for another early autumn group build if this one goes well :D:):D

(chociaż może ze względu na bardziej okrągłą rocznicę może wypadało by poczekać na przyszły rok z tym drugim projektem, albo jednak zacząć już na jesieni tego roku żeby na 2009 było już jak najwięcej gotowe?)

I think we could widen it to StuG III alle Ausf if there will be people willing to participate with their kits. Lets leave IV for some other project and remain just with III. We have so many nice A's,B's, F's and G's and StuH's to go for? OK :)

Is that CMK resin? Very nice looking StuG :thumb:
I hoped to add to my stug something from cyber-hobby upgrade set #2 but seems its not available in shops anymore. :(

I have nearly finished the rear deck now.
Photos tomorrow eeeee today, I belive since its 1 am now LOL.

Do you have any specific StuG III that you would like to build, I am curious?

OK, I'm in. I will won't start till after I finished off the Panther and my next build.

I will build a Stug III C/D either from Stug Abt 189 Eastern Front or the late war C/D "Blucher" in Prague May, 1945

Cool, good to have you on board Laz.

John,

Many Chris, many! Goodnite!

That is the correct answer John ;)

I assume you are in as well?

Lets set deadline for the D-Day than (if there will be need we can move it for some later date).

I'll make a new thread for the group build. Everyones invited to participate.

Krzysztof,

As for me - the deadline on D-Day seems to by good.

Yes, that's CMK's resin. In my humble opinion - great sets. Details are very nice, and fitting is quite good in spite of the fact that is the set for Tamiya's kit.
I'm glad you like it - I'll post some photos on the group build thread soon :thumb:

Come to the Cyberhobby's set - I saw it in Modelcentrum about 2 weeks ago, but now it seems to disappear :(
But don't you think that it is too expensive for that what it's offering?

Mateusz

Mateusz,

Lets wait with posting new images till we get an answer from Gordy or some other person in charge if a new place for group builds can be created.

I spoke with the guy in Modelcentrum and he does not have them for some time. So was false alarm.

Chris

PS Myślę że może można by było zrobić taki projekt wrzesień '39 tym bardziej że mamy w przyszłym roku 70-tą rocznicę. Szerokie pole do popisu. Polskie, niemieckie i ruskie pojazdy do wykonania. Ja się noszę już od jakiegoś czasu z Pz.I z tej kampanii albo Pz.IV C #800 podziurawiony przez naszych pod Sochaczewem.

Of the two cyber hobby update sets for the stug, I think the interior one is better. The exterior set's fenders are not as good as the kits.

Agree with you John. Kits fenders look very good to me. And that is maybe why still #1 set is available at R10, but do not want this one.
