I've been contemplating soldering photo-etch thanks to this site. If saw me in the kitchen, you'd understand what a frightening a concept that is. :D

Recent mentions here of soldering paste led me to Google for some how-to information. I ran across this article, and I'm wondering if it might be applicable to our world:

cheap surface mount soldering iron (http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/07/how-to-make-a-surface-mount-soldering-iron/)

Could this help? What do you think?

I just wrote an article for the Indianapolis AMPS website (http://www.indy-amps.org) covering my experiences with soldering for the first time and you might find it helpful.

Looks good Andrew. I'm just learning how to do this without soldering the parts to my fingers.

seems to me they are making something to shrink tubing and de glue things- not to solder.

So, I finally noticed the replies on my thread. Heh.

Actually, it's intended for precision soldering of surface mount chips. The only way I'll find out whether it's good for PE is if I try it myself. The whole contraption is pretty cheap, and I have other uses for it, so I'll be the guinea pig. I'll report back in a few weeks (months?).

Just skimmed it, and I'm absolutely certain it will help. Thanks!
