I'm sorry to say, but the box art is a bit of a failure in the sense that it makes the Panther look a bit out of proportion. I like the subject though and the add on roof armor is a niche thing to have in a kit.
I will wait the review from PMMS...before I buy it :D :D

I was beginnig to think maybe it was just me but everytime I looked at the box art the Panther just didn't look right to me. I couldn't put my thumb on it but the front looks odd. Maybe the angles or something. Otherwise it looks great to me. It is probably going to be a Cyber Hobby Green box release which means it will be available at all hobby shops and such just like a regular Dragon kit.

Well, I will get one for Magda, the Polish Pantera captured by the AK and used in the Warsaw Uprising. ;)

Guys,
the panther looks out of proportion to you because of the perspective. It is ZOOMING at you forcing it to look larger in the front and smaller in the back. Looks like the layout or model was done in a computer and the artist, or more likely the marketing people had a field day trying to make it look even MORE exciting!:rolleyes::cool:

I thought about that but that isn't it. I have narrowed it down to the front lower hull and front tracks. It appears to be a little "warped". Run an imaginary line across the part where the front fenders attach to the hull. Below that line looks strange while above it and aft look fine. It appears that the artist exagerated the angle a bit. The lower right front of the tank appears to be to far forward and moving in a slightly different direction than the left front. Looks kinda warped to me. But thats just me. My opinion only.

Larry and Roy,
I actually see both your points! It seems the painting may be based on a photo taken with one of those screwy lens (fish eye?). Anyway, the track faces do match but they seem to come down closer to the vehicle's centerline on the left. That does seem unnatural. Or could it just be that the left mudguard is slightly up?
Does anyone have a completed model to try to capture this angle? :D PlanetArmor CSI (Creative Scene Investigator)

yup,
it's called distortion, trust me, its my job. ;) Like Saul said, a fish eye kind of thing. The closer to the viewer the more distorted. Everything else recedes very quickly. I'll do a diagram........here you go.....the corner closer to you is more distorted because of the laws of perspective. :thumb:

I'm with everybody else in looking at this and thinking there is something wrong with the proportions of the Panther.
It makes it look too narrow and too tall. Compare the height of the soldiers in the scene. Up against the tank their eye level should be at just below the engine deck/hull height.
The turret looks a little like its floating above the tank, only slightly though.
Still having said that it's still a nice illustration and hopefully Dragon haven't done the same with the kit inside.
I saw some old box art of Tamiya's recently, which took me back.
They used to do some nice "wow look at this, got to buy it" artwork on their stuff before the days of tank/AFV/ on white background

:)Just perspective. Just as Larry has stated. Perspective is used to create mood, give the tank presence as well as some motion.
101 TECHNICAL drawing. First thing you learn in technical art.
I'm surprised that some of you guys don't know about perspective being modelers.

One thing that could have this looking out of wack is if the perspective lines have a horizon point to close as appearers to be the case here.
Opinions are like bottom holes, we've all got one but it's best if we keep it to our selves :).

I understand it, but my initial issue with the box art was plainly, that it should make me want to buy it and look attractive. I must say the idea used is interesting, I applaud that, but sadly at this perspective I don't see the beauty and the *click* does not happen in my brain.

It's not a very flattering angle for the tank. It just looks bulbous instead of threatening. That's what happens when marketing people start to tell the artist what to do.

Geeze! This is a tough crowd!
Wonder whats gonna happen when we see the inside of the box with this much debate of the boxart alone!

OMG! Guys its just box art! I think it looks cool and once again its just box art. I care more about what's inside and how it fits. Hope the build gets a fair shake. BTW I'm getting 2 of those beasts!

Other than the addition of the turret roof armor what else is new?
I am building the steel wheel Panther G and as far as I know it has all the parts for an early Panther G. Well maybe except for the earlier cast armour guard for the exhaust and the early G has a cutout on the glacis plate for the driver's periscope.
So what am I missing here?
I would have prefered if the added parts for a Befehls Panther.

It's a cool looking kit, but why can't Dragon do a 3-1 or similiar for the Panther G? They have all the parts between the late and SW Panthers, just add a few sprues to the SW Panther box, make the horseshoe a seperate piece, and add some Befehls gear, and you could do any Panther G.

More money! They will make more if you buy 1 or 2 of each of the different versions then if they producted the 3 in 1 kits.

Everyone loves bitching. :)
I can't wait for the moaning to start when people actually look at their references and discover that the I/26 Panther's with the features in that kit, require zimmerit (insert scary noise here) and at least two need spare track hung on the turret side. Yep, zimmerit.
This kit is available from Cyber Hobby now, ja? I'll still be buying it on spec, as I'm hopeless! :thumb:

If i may be blunt - who gives a fuck about box art perspective - do any of you build the box art?
The kit will be a winner, even with having to add one's own zimm.
Cant wait to add many of these to the collection.

Just some of us thought there was something odd about it and we were all just trying to figure out what it was. NOBODY was complaining about the kit due to the boxart. Nobody was condeming anything. Some people like model kit boxart and to discuss it is well within the realm of this forum. As for this kit. Price will be one of the biggest deciding factors for me. Kit prices in the states are already outrageous and are bordering on insanity. I went to a local model store this weekend and they had the reboxing of the Tamiya 222 with the motorcycle. There is absolutely nothing new in this kit. The parts all come from existing Tamiya kits including the P.E. screens. 36.00 U.S. Thats crazy. Lucky for me I have a huge stash that I will keep me going well past my earthly time. I will still be buying kits but most of them will be second hand.
