Ever see one of those comments from one of the all knowing that gets directed to someone's model pics, where the modeller has place a piece of ammo flat ontop of the tank. OMG- you should never do that- the ammo would go off!
Well here's proof that it was done in real life.:)

James, I agree-one should never stand a round up on it's end. If it were to fall over it would most likely damage the round and every one counts. I think that it has to do something with the size of a round; the modern versions are so much bigger that they stand up higher and therefore are easier to knock over. I served many years in the US Army on tanks and it was something that just was not done. Maybe it was OK in the Wehrmacht? Dan

Well as we can see in the above photo, it was. Perhaps only for a photo op but still.
Hi Dan- I was referring to WWII German tank models, I should have been more specific. I don't build modern very much, nor Allied WWII for that much, so I guess I just assumed readers would know what I was referring to. :thumb: What one country's army does in one time period as compared to another country's from a completely different time may not be all that reliable of a transposition of military code or conduct- particularly in the field.

I've seen several photos of that being done, all by German on their own vehicles or destroyed Russian ones with a few rare ones of American GIs and captured and/or destroyed German armor.

I've seen it too, many times. But anyway, what a great photo to base a model on! Pz.Rgt.21.
