Remember the controversial paint scheme discussion on my Panzer IV/F2? And the colour of the forward view ports. Here you can see that sometimes this was the case . I'm not saying that was the case on this Panzer IV but just so you guys know I wasn't totally off base as some had suggested.:D

Here is a comment by David Nickles over on ML
What you are seeing is the framework that holds the armored glass visors inside the drivers armor. On very early halftracks the drivers area was ivory colored. The inside of the flap itself... who knows... Dunno.......

yeah- so what's your point? I've seen it on Panzer I's too. I'm just saying that the white on the outside face was done- when it stopped being done...?? Who knows. Certainly not David Nickels.
Just to be clear all I'm saying is, here is photographic proof that the outside of the view port was white on this vehicle and that I was not totally off base suggesting it with the F2. I'm not saying it was the case on the F2. Frankly I don't know to what extent this practice was carried out and to which vehicles. I would be interested to know the answer to this question.
Is there white on the outside of the view port opening on this contemporary picture of a 253, (incorrectly identified by Mr. Nickels BTW as a 250) or not. Looks like it to me. Anybody else want to contribute- any photos showing this detail on other vehicles?

BTW in that discussion it is also stated that the interior colour of engine compartments was red primer. I believe this to be wrong, (based on my research on this subject regarding Panzer IV's.) The inside was white not red. This belief is based on viewing many photographs. Not saying that all were white but I also can say they weren't all red either.

Sorry Jamie, no dice. :)
What you are seeing (and I'll take a punt and say its an Sd.Kfz.252 of Stug Abt 189) is the armoured glass installed. It is a separate assembly, and was painted as such.
In fact if anything, you've added weight to the argument that the interior colour didn't (in most cases) spread to the outside surface, as the far left side of the recess where the vision block returns to, is painted in the vehicles external colour.
Sheeds.

Okay your explanation makes sense and explains that sufficiently for me- thanks for the enlightening. :thumb::) (This would explain the Panzer I sightings as well?)
I will like to look into this further when I get the chance. Just to see how the armoured glass assembly was mounted.

Exactly what sheeds said, I though that quote made it quite clear. :)

Okay I guess I'm guilty of not really reading the quote, just use to skimming over Mr. Nickels messages:D
But now I know -
