Hi Chris,
That is a great Sherman kit! I have built a it and used it as a basis for a conversion. It is still available from shops and online dealers (modelmecca.com) so don't pay too much.

Tazz, I've had two of these kits and each time I've used them as trading material to get another kit I needed right away. From looking the kit over in the box I think it's a great kit. One nice thing is it includes plenty of extras, like on board storage, that you can either use on the model or add to your spares box. The casting of the model looks very nice to me.
Here is a link from Modeling the US Army website on some things you can do to the kit to make it more accurate. Modeling the Tamiya Sherman (http://www.usarmymodels.com/MANUFACTURERS/Tamiya/tamiya35190.html)

Tazz, too bad you missed out on it. I get mine at Hobby Lobby when they're on half price sale. Their regular price is $38.99 so I can get it for $18.50. They just had one of these sales but it ended Saturday and their next one probably won't be for another three or four months. Hobby Link Japan shows it for $26.20 plus shipping but it's backordered.

I like the kit. And to brag a little I just picked one up for $10 at our local club meeting  . Some guy was selling some Tamiya kits to clear out space (also picked up a Cromwell kit for $10 as well).

hey tazz,
as has been said already its a great kit. ive built two or three
however its not an M4 early, its a remanufactured M4. it needs some corrections to make an M4 early.
ootb its fine as a remanufactured one, as long as you raise the hull weld beads
cheers

As others have indicated, a wonderful kit of a re-built/repaired/whatever early Shermie.
Be advised that there are many spares included from from their 1st Sherman - the standard-setting M4A3W. These sprues are starting to show their age from the amount of flash, while the main sprues of the newer "early" are just fine.
i picked up the kit,
its really nice,
i hope 2 start to build it in a few weeks,
iam geting the sherman boook
sherman in action.
and i might get teh sherman stogae set from vls

Tazz, you might also look at the Tamiya Allied Accessories kit, the one that has the duce and a half on it. It has plenty of "Jerry" cans, both German and US, along with all sorts of sleeping bags, tarps, duffle bags, etc. I think it's less expensive than the VLS kit and it's pretty good.

the allied accessory set has US and british jerry cans in it, not german.
the british ones were a copy of the german design, but if you look close they have WD (war department) stamped on them

Howdy fellas,
Yes, greatbrit is correct. They were called 'Blitz' cans if I remember correctly. Probably not, since I am having less and less confidence in my synapse's.....

hi tread,
you are partly correct,
the british came up with the name 'jerry can', and it was applied to our copied version.
the american ones were originally called blitz can, but jerry can was more popular
