I have Lionmarc's modern .50 barrel and it is very nice also. Here is a link to the review on PMMS:

It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Adler's Nest barrel.

Adlers Nest is the best.. Its a kit by its own.. it does need very careful painting though. But a perfect kit.. Lets hope someone comes up with a flexible ammo belt..

Mission Models makes it in photo-etched for the belt and turned brass for the ammo. A lttle tricky to get assembled but a stunning result can be obtained.

By the way I have Tasca´s cal .50 and are superb.

The Mission Models belt is sweet, I assembled one myself. It's not too bad if you leave half the fret attached on one side, make all your bends around a drill bit, then remove the rest of the fret and make your second bends around another drill bit. Slide them off one by one to assemble and it's done.
The biggest problem I found is they don't fit anyones ammo boxes that I had in my stash. The shells are a bit too long.
I agree the Tasca are by far the best plastic .50 cal followed by maybe the Academy set. As far as turned brass .50 cals, besides the two mentioned, I believe Armorscale makes one and Lion Roar included one in the Half Track update kit, and I'm assuming it will be released on its own.
Far too many choices, far too little money. :thumb:

Hi Ken,
The shells are the correct length as a they are a scale 5.25 inch. The problem arises from using a plastic ammunition box as the thickness of the walls interferes. I used my Armor Research boxes (also available from Fotocut). I did not try them in Aber's. LionRoar's, or Voyager's boxes.

Thanks for the info Saul, but the boxes I tried must be even smaller than what you have mentioned. It wasn't a case of the plastic thickness of the box walls as the shells are bigger than the box as a whole, IE: outside dimension. Maybe I'll get a picture of the few I have.
Secondly maybe a typo ? but the .50 cal shells I have right here ( Grandpa was a gunsmith ;) ) measure just shy of 5 and 1/2 inches, not 5 and 1/4 .

More like a Brain Fart. :D

I have a shell in my collection and used it to measure up Mission Models shells when they came out...
Not being handy now, I will take your word for it.
The MG boxes I used were from Armor Research...there I go again...repeating myself! :p
Sure! Let's see some photos

Awww, you don't have to do that. :thumb:

You don't have to do that either, ;) I read that part the first time. :thumb: I however don't have those handy but a stash full of other types. Here is the Tamiya on the left, hard to tell but the shell is just a smidge longer than the box is wide. Verlinden on the right, a bit easier to see the box is too small. I have also tried the Dragon ( M2A1 kit ) and the Academy ( both weren't handy for the picture ) and I believe they were much of the same result.

I think I will have to get my vernier calipers out and check the shells myself. If they do infact scale out to 5.25 inches then they are almost a 1/4 too small and that makes the boxes at least that much too small as well.
It's a mystery.

Hi Ken,
You are actually right about the length, hence the brain fart comment. I did find some PE boxes that were too large for the plastic 'box holders' yet held the shells correctly. I agree that the boxes may be too small.
There was a web site with the boxes measured out to 12" x 6 1/4" x 7 3/4":
M1 Boxes

http://www.bmgparts.com/products/canm1.jpg
M17 Box:

All this information is good as I have advised a company planning to release full shells and pre-formed belts loops to also release a box and holder where the accurately scaled items can fit.

With this I was able to look up an old ammo box from my Grandfather. It is a 30 cal. United with a catch on the side that fits a 1917A1 tripoid! Wth embossed direction of ammo on tne top. It has now been moved out of the garage.

Hi Mark,
Excellent news, and I am glad to help even if it was only consequential. Now that it is out of the garage, would you consider photographing it with some measurements thrown in? You know how we love reference! :thumb:
