Hi guys, I just wondered if some of you might know of a good hobbyshop or two in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I'm going there for a few days next week and it would be great to sooth my none existing nerves after long hours of shopping with the missus... ;-)

Thanks in advance,
Kris in Sweden

Kris

There are not many dedicated full hobby shops in Malaysia. The range of products is quite limited (don't expect much aftermarket stuff) and prices are not cheap (about 50 to 100% more than in HK).

The shops are also quite far apart and transportation is not the easiest. You will have go by taxi but beware that there are taxi drivers who can refuse to take you or not use the meter.

HHQ (HobbyHQ)
T115, 3rd Floor, City Square, Jalan Tun Razak.

MH (Miniature Hobby)
Miniature Hobby

Tamiya Underground

Hi Kris,

Just to add on to what Lawrence mentioned, HHQ and Tamiya Underground are on opposite ends of the city, while Miniature Hobby is somewhere in between.

The good news is that HHQ is near the KLCC Twin Towers so you can leave your wife there to do her shopping and hop onto the light rail transit to the next stop (Ampang Park). From there, you can walk to the City Square where HHQ is located.

Tamiya Underground is within a large shopping complex (One Utama) so again your missus will be kept busy. If you happen to be there on a Sunday, you can also make a detour to the nearby Cineleisure complex (near IKEA) where you may find a group of local modellers hanging out at SciFi Outpost.

Miniature Hobby is located in a commercial district (Section 14 PJ). It's my favourite hobby shop as it has a wide range of kits.

Besides the 3 shops, you can also find selected Tamiya kits at Toycity, which has branches in most shopping centres around Kuala Lumpur. Do note that the 31st August is Independence Day so most of these shops may be closed. Happy shopping!
