Hi Guys,

Well, I have REAL busy after hearing of Tanxheaven not being accessible. Many will probably remember Tanks2Scale, a SeedWiki web site owned by Kenneth Tyler with fabulous walk around photos. Due to people using photo downloading software, it was removed because of the ensuing bandwidth consumption.

Now, the good news. Kenneth Tyler will put up Tanks2Scale (along with Air2Scale, Guns2Scale, and Ships2Scale - no idea what to call the firetruck and construction web sites). It will be a members only web site even though member ship is free. This will be used to track and block anyone using software. Yes, the photos can only be viewed and downloaded one at a time (sorry James ;) - reference to your webshots post).

While the images are being loaded to the server, I will need some dedicated people to help create the pages (it is easy thanks to the new wiki format). I will try to make a few pages visible as I am a firm believer in doing before teaching.

Regards,

James Tainton

I don't understand how the two are related Web shots and the other site are completely different systems. As well what is the difference in band width between using software to download pictures en mass or to do it one at a time?
BTW I would be interested in learning how to make those pages as my web site has a Wiki system, which I would perhaps utilize as a tool for people to upload their pictures. I have many many photos of my own that I would upload, for people to download, with or without software to their hearts content.;)

Hi James,

There are three sizes of photos on Tanks2Scale (and related sites). By excluding the use of software, people will download the image size according to their need. For most purposes, photos 600 pixels wide are enough. Some of the photos are 2048 pixels wide and therefor large files.

This is the way Ken has figured he can keep Tanks2Scale a free reference.

I think web shots has a way that you can download the full size images at a small price. Every time I go there I can't find it anyone know how that works?:thumb:

Saul,

While the images are being loaded to the server, I will need some dedicated people to help create the pages (it is easy thanks to the new wiki format). I will try to make a few pages visible as I am a firm believer in doing before teaching.
Can you tell me how to do this? ;)
