Since my M4 MMC is on hold I started this kit Monday, but have not got much done. I can not really find one to build so I am just moving on. I think I want to do a late model but... Got to make up my mind before I do the front plate. It seem they put 2 notched in it for the plate that is on the late model. Hmmm what to do. Also this is the first Tristar I have built and I must say I hope all of them do not have the fit problem as the lower parts do on this one. Gzzzz :(

Thanks for looking and as always comments one way or the other are always welcome.

I like how you have done the chains on the front tow pintles- separate, before gluing to the body- prolly more easy to get done?
As for the fit- I was severely disappointed with the first Pz IV D from Tristar- actually had to shit can one -( bye bye $50.00 :( ) . I do have all of the Tristar Pz. Iv's and hope to one day find the time to tackle them. I would suggest a lot of test fitting and patience. :)

Hi Mike,
as you, I have been experiencing lot of bad fit with lower hull in my IVB. Huge disappoinment :( Well, that's mainly tackled now and next problem is bad fit with upper hull, how else!

James,

Yes to me it is easier to fit the chains to the tow pins first as my hands are not as steady as they once were. I had seen your build on the PZ D and have also looked at others on some other PZ's and all seem to had bad problems with fit. :( Thanks as I am test fitting ever piece almost.

I do have a question for you. Do you know how the rear chain attach's to the tow mount. I have seen some pictures but they are not clear. The only one I have shows a nut welded to it but not what was screwed into it. I have toyed with the idea of either it was a I bolt as on the front or a strap of some kind. Any ideas?

Niko

Niko,

Yeap as I have already test fitted the upper hull and have had to sand a little on it to get it to fit. :( I hope all the P38's and PZ 1's are not this bad.

Back to the Darkside, eh Mike! Funny, I have a PzIV B that I was thinking perhaps for my next build after the M2...great minds I guess.

Looking good so far...too bad about the hull.

Coming along fine.:thumb:

The Tristar lower hull is not that bad, it just needs some putty in the right places and will end up looking fine.;)

The lower hull tub needs some care when gluing together. I did find the Ausf B tub to be better than the Ausf C. You need to make sure the lower tub is lined up straight or it will affect the fit of the upper hull. The fit for the rest of the kit is quite good though.

James
Did you can your Ausf D build, I thought you got some replacement parts from Pat of Tristar?

I have a question about part K-2. I have looked at all the references I can find and do not see any with this kind of front plate. Did Tristar forget to mention this is for a Late model maybe?

Cool Rick. I also got a Dragon E Vorpanzer to build at the same time I got this.

There's a photo of an Ausf B/C with the add on armor in post #23 by Arhad in the PzIV Ausf C pics thread. It's the upper left photo.

I have pics of it as well and I will post them when I get home.

Cool thanks Lawrence. I was just about to msg you. I did a search on PA and found your build and tweaks/fixes list. I had noticed what looked like you had replaced your front plate. I had not looked at those picthures very well as I missed the one you pointed out. So it looks as some had and others did then. Hmm now something else to think about.

Dave

  Dave, technically I don't....Paul Ranta gave me it (CyberB) when we met earlier this spring at the local clubhouse.* It's the only thing that I have unbuilt and it's been casting it's spell upon me, especially during those hair pulling moments while building the M2. Must stay focused!!!!!

* thanks Paul!!!!

There was short shot problem with the front lip of the hull front on my Ausf C. To rectify this, I removed the lip and replaced it with a thin strip of styrene. An alternative would have been to use the zusatzpanzerung to cover the front edge.

Here are a few Pz IVs with the 30mm face hardened zusatzpanzerung.

Thank You Lawrence. I have the same problem with mine being short and I was just going to cut a strip of styrene to fix it. I had also though of using the zusatzpanzerung (did not know the corect name.. Thanks) to cover the front edge. Also I have a copy of Panzer Tracts 4 put up. May have to get it out. It is a signed copy so I have it sealed and put away.

Lawrence or anyone else have anymore pictures or info on the first one you posted from panzer tracts?

Panzer Tracts doesn't mention any unit information of that vehicle and no numerals or divisional markings are visible. It does have a dark patch between the driver and RO possibly indicating that it was painted in the 2/3rds Dunkelgrau Nr.46 and 1/3rd Dunkelbraun Nr.45 camouflage.

Here are pics of the zusatzpanzerung on Ausf D's.

Anyone have a shot of the exhaust mounts on a C. Looking around I have not found a good shot. I don't think the Tristar ones are right for some reason. Looking at the panzer tracks 4 there is not a drawing of the rear of the C or real info on them.
Mike

Edit:

looking around on PA I found this shot that James had posted. Not sure But a D maybe but I think this shows the type mounts I was looking for.
