The search for a new job has kept me from posting and building for awile  but now its time to pick up the slack a little. With all the beautifull Stugs at PA I remembered I had a Tamiya STUGIII hiding in the basement. When I dug it up out came a partial build model. Why I never finished it I cant remember, but the roof was glued and then removed again.

As build chassis with modified roofplate.

Modified roof. I cut off the bolts, drilled holes and filled them with Slaters rods to simulate screws as on the early STUG roofs. Also made welds with Slaters micro rod.

Mockup I. Dry fit of top on hull. Added welds on the engine rear plates.

Mockup II. With coppula. I also replaced the rear Notek light with an earlier type.

Mockup III. This comes close to the final look I want. Mounted the spare wheels on the side. Aber grills are gluid in place as is some Tamiya etch next to the engine air intakes and the debris screen to the rear engine overhang.

Mockup IV. Scherenfernrohr and sunshades fitted

Mockup V.

Mockup VI. Welds added to the box mantlet. I used Squadorn\signal Walk Around No 2 as reference.

Mockup VII. Still lots to do, fit all the tools and get some Friul tracks.

This little guy will deside the final look of the build. I hope I can make him work as a loader shooting an mg34 from the opend hatch. I wil probably have to make an partial interiour in that case. If it does not workout the STUG stays buttoned up. He is from the "2nd fallschirmjaeger division" set with an Hornet head.

I took Abdin Santoni's advise and dug up my STUG IV. I think I build this one 12 years ago  and never painted it. It been in a box all this time.

Italerie band tracks and Tamiya steel support rollers.

It will stay as it is, but I think i'll mount some Academy tracks on it and finally spray some paint.

His work (specially the fine detailing with plasti card) was the inspiration for this 1/48th Tamiya STUGIII early (and a Panzer IV J but thats an other story)

I cut the fenders and modified the box mantlet to accept an armourscale barrel (its for the Pz IV J)

I cut the bolts from the roof and drilled holes in there place to simulate the screws.

Took some work to get the front arour bits to fit correctly. Originally there was a nasty gap after i removed the front fender parts.

Long way to go on this one. The fit of the hull and top is not that great :yell: and i'll have to figure out how to fix it.:o
