View Full Version : DML Nashorn premium edition
I have many unfinished models armed with "Acht-Acht" in my werke.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/unfinished02.jpg
Asidethat, I got another vehicle with 88 - Nashorn of DML.
First,I engraved the date I bought this kit on inside of lower hull(it was 07'/08/08.day of"88":)).
Then treated KO pins on lower hull and filled "valley" on gun breech.

I'm going to build this kit OOB.
And any information is welcome.
Thank you for watching!

I've just finished building the same kit, and must say it was an enjoyable experience - it's a very good kit. If you want any helful suggestions, just ask.

masanori-San,
Nice start and look forward to follow your build :thumb:
thanks for watching guys(oh and ladys of course:p ).
Interesting builds. hope you have the will to finish them some day!:thumb:
Push my back toward finish this build:)
I worked about tiny bits these days.
I did some on suspensions using plastic rods/cards, putty and bolts from junk parts.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn03.jpg
Should I use tristar susupension set rather than make such resistance?:)
Anyway I go with kit parts this time.
And some work on main gun.breech, rear half of barrel and mount.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn04.jpg
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn05.jpg
Add putty, sanding, find overlooked dent/scratch (return to the first step:mad:)
This took time but am satisfied with result.
Progress so far is like this.

G'day CODA.
Nice going on the Nashorn. Have you decided on a unit/scheme for this yet?
There's a good 12SS one I'd had on my "to do" list, I just don't have the courage to tackel the old DML Nashy kit.....but this updated one looks to be pretty good. You could paint it in disc camo, like the Hummel in Panzer Wrecks IV. :)
Keep us posted.

Nice progress...Masanori-San...Keep it coming :)

I have interest but haven't read that book yet.
Is "disc camo" looks like this?

Panther of Hermann Goring Division.
I will make this vehicle as one went to Italy, but not decided yet.
I was lazy so I didn't saved images of tanxheaven.com.
Seriously in trouble without them:(
Hope they will back soon.

Yes that is the disc camo.
Another book you could look at is Model Fibel - Self Propelled Gun Vol 1 by Model Art. There is a nice build of the Nashorn by Kazuhiro Tokuda.
Lawrence
Here's work space for soldering.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/workspace.jpg
Ceramic tile, solder, iron, liquid flux etc. etc.. nothing is special.
I did MG rack, radio rack and louvers.
On louvers, not attempt to build them all at once, solder pieces step by step may better way I think.

Finished!
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/solder04.jpg
Other progress is ALL road wheels, drive sprockets, storage boxes inside the fighting compartment and tiny bits here and there.
Thanks for watching!
Masanori

Super job!:thumb:
hi all
Still working on tiny bits here and there like this pic.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn07.jpg
I decided to make front mud flap with thin sheet of brass.
I made two sets. One is 0.1mm thick and other is 0.2mm thick.
(1)First,put masking tape on mud flap to copy its shape.
(2)Then trace outline onto brass sheet that stack two sheets soldered.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn08.jpg
(3)Cut out piece, fix shape, and unstack pieces with soldering iron.
Engrave bending line and bend it into the shape.
(4)Lucky! They have proper width. No need to redo all :)
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn09.jpg
Added ribs with 0.5mm brass wire.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn10.jpg
It was easier than making basket of Marder3 H.
But cutting out parts from bare material is new experience for me,so I had to stop my hand moving and think how/what to do next many times.
And I bought PE set from GMU-KA.

Nice work on the mud flaps :thumb: I soldered the brass rod to the mudflap for my tauchpanzer and I got to say it's not easy to get it right especially since the mudflap has to sit exactly on top of the rod. Maybe it's just me :(
Lawrence
thanks everyone!
What tool(s) did you use to cut it out?
I use hacksaw and #5/0 or #4/0 blade for 0.2mm or thicker materials.
For 0.1mm or thinner materials, scissors or sharp knife is enough I think.
Tutorial page written by Watanabe-san is VERY helpful.

I fell into exactry the same trouble!:yell:
It took time and required vast of patience.
Little progress here.
Finish assembling gun mount.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn12.jpg
I trimmed thicknes of gun-shield stays and very satisfied with result.:D
Give some sharpness on towing pintle and gunsight
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn13.jpg
Now I treated ALL KO pins on magic tracks so next job may be about running gear.
Thanks for watching !
Masanori
Magic track glued!

http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn15.jpg
Sag looks good:)
I did right side first and let it dry, then try another side. so maybe left side track will shrink bit more after cement get dried.
Thanks for looking.
Masanori
Looks nice...can't wait next update :)
I haven't abandoned this vehicle!
I lost some dots detail on fenders while sanding hinges off,so I applied PE parts of skid plate from LionRoar.
There's no complaint about kit parts but I decided to remake whole fender parts by myself.
Its just a practice. If failed this challange, kit parts remain intact.
After all, I never fall into serious situation. Its time to make some challange:thumb:
I started with paper mock.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn16.jpg
Then copied outline onto 0.25mm thick plastic card.
I choose plastic card because its easy to cut or sand, can use plastic cement to glue(I hate CA glue:().
Cut all pieces and glue together.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn17.jpg
I wll add bunch of bolts and hinges from junkyard later.
And another small works.
Spare wheel lack and bracket for end of vehicle.
http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb164/pacoda/nashorn/nashorn18.jpg
PE parts from kit isn't correct at number and arrangement of bolts:(.
Wires added to inside of hull.

Thanks for looking!
