Ok so this is not only my first vBench, but the first time I have shown anyone outside my wife and cat, my models, so please try not rake me over the coals right away :)

This post will serve three purposes:
1. Experience in posting to a vBench
2. Experience in model making.
3. Experience in photographing 'bench top' objects.

The second point I hope to solve over many years with input from wherever I can get it.

I chose this model because it was on sale in Medowhall Sheffield, last time I was in the UK (2005), I think it was 9.99 GBP. Amazingly this survived getting back to the US in checked luggage, along with 3 other models.

So this is the model I am finishing up. The build is pretty much per instructions, except for the canvas in the basket, and the tent and bedrolls on the sides. These were made up from tissue paper soaked in water and white glue.

I know the box is for the IFOR cammo and markings, but I wanted a desert one, so I painted it in this color. Yes the model is missing its 'desert' upgrades but I make models I like first, and historically accurate second. Thats why I have a Mosquito FB in Luftwaffe 'Defending the Reich' colors, but we won't go there so not to offend the AFV Gods.:D

I wanted to buy the upgrade set for this, but since it 4x times the price of the model, I think not.

Hope you like the photo's so far, next time I will use Aperture to process the images. Not sure if I can use RAW here, or if you can view RAW in the waste of space 'IE' browser.

Next up, is to complete the painting and start on the weathering.

Please, any input would be appreciated:thumb:

Thanks

Trumpeter AS-90 is a good model, needs accessory material and so onsome the PE completes it.
In front of the chassis artillery tube marched the rack which lockedtoo steadily, according to the picture demonstration was quite short.
Moreover, you do very much are 52 time of calibers artillery style arecan have make the effect which one shocks. The hope can see finallycompletes appearance.

Welcome to the Planet Robert!:thumb:
Looking good so far. One question; the weld seams on the turret look well represented, did they come that way from Trumpter or did you re-work them?

Regards,
Mark

P.S. Forrest, your english is not totaly perfect, but we underestand.;)

Forrest, no problem. I use http://www.mac.com/i/fpc/en_shared/al2/logo_dotmac_bevel.gif to host my images. Apple just upped storage to 10GB with 100GB bandwidth. Not bad for $99/yr.

Ok here are some more pictures of the build, or in this case paint and weathering. I am basing this off pictures of the units coming off the roll-on roll-off ships in Iraq. The machines would be fairly well clean but in talking to my brother-in-law who has served there said stuff gets dusty and sandy after about 5 mins in the elements.

greenish log after pigments - this is 100 better than the green stick

So I have been working on the tarp and trying to make it not look like painted tissue paper soaked in white glue. So I wanted to try using layers of paint and I evenually came up with a green log. Not what i had in mind. The tarp on the top, well that was a grey patch, you get the picture.

I thought i would give a try at pigments, but since I do not have any of those lovely pigments from Mig Productions I thought i would look arround for an alternative. My wife actually came up with an idea. When I discribed what I was looking for, she mentioned she had some old 'eye blush' make up that is mineral based. Well I tried it and not bad.

image of mineral powder.

Now if you will forgive the pun, here is the rub. The stuff she kindly gave me is 'Bare Essentials Mineral' make-up. This is not cheep, about $15 for a thimble full.

Has anyone every used anything similar that is cheeper.
Don't get me wrong this stuff is extremely fine and wonderful, but I cannot go raiding my wife's makeup, or i will end up sleeping with the cat.

So please, comments ideas, know of any cheep mineral powders?.

Hey Robert,

Check out this article for making tarps...I've used this process and it works great, it gives your "tarps" a realistic texture and it's strong and easier to work with for folding etc...

I can't seem to get the links to work...go to Militarymodeling.com then look on the right side for Making Realistic Tarps by Brian Balkwill

As for the Pigments...check out your local art store, they should stock artist chalks in all sorts of colors. I simply rub them on sandpaper to get a powder and then apply them as usual. There are also a number of other brands of premixd weathering powders available..try the local Railroad hobby store, they are a good source for many of these types of items.

I would suggest, however, that before you get moving too far along with the powders, that you first give your vehicle a little wash of darker color (especially around the corners & details) to help give them depth and definition.

Hope it helps..
:)
